You're Not Tequila - SoundCloud Link

To anyone willing to listen and comment, I am seeking input on if the lyrics make sense or not.

Have a great day!

Hi Dewey,
I love everything about your song, especially your vocals and how you deliver the lyrics.
"Without warning this morning" is such a cool rhyme, I think I'm going to steal that one smile

Dewey, hey, these lyrics make PERFECT sense. I mean, they're SAD in the way songs about desolation and loss are sad, but that's the point, right? If I heard this on a jukebox I'd be tapping a boot and ordering another round. Ha!

Dewey, country as it should be, i.e. this should be on every country radio station.

Your vocal was very strong and the lyrics were fantastic, don't change a thing!

Great backing band and mix.

Loved this one!

That's one LOOOONG chorus but it makes sense, holds the flow and advances the story.
The roughish voice REALLY suits the story too.
the ""lost in my brain" line in the 2nd chorus seems to be phrased slightly different to C1 and isn't quite as successful.
Excellent.

Cheers

Excellent lyrics --AS ALWAYS, Dewey. Amnesia-tequila! That should be a brand. "If you really wanna help me, start a GoFundMe page to cover my tab." Man, there are so many good lines in there. Well, you haven't asked about the song, but... It sure is a good one, and perfect for the lyrics. Everything goes so well together, and all in support of the song. Well done!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Dewey...unfortunately all of the lyrics make perfect sense...and that's fortunate for you and the listeners...man when you started with that crying steel you gotta know a great country ballad is about to rip your heart...as has been said the vocal is spot-on...your phrasing is fresh and on point...this SHOULD be playing on country radio...there are lots of country artists that could make this a hit...in the 'age of celebrity' that really all it needs...five stars from me!

Cool song. I had to think about who "You" was in the song. After reviewing the lyrics, I think I got it.

Lots of really good stuff in this. Most especially in the lyrics.

Nicely done.

Edit.... Oh yeah tequila. Man.... One night.... Let me simply say... It was the only time I've seen double. The hangover lasted 3 excruciating days. And it was just for grins. Tequila scares me to this day.

Excellent track Dewey & great vocals - very well done!!
To my ears the track might benefit from having the pedal steel come & go (rather than constant) - maybe interchange with some piano & guitar fills, but that's just my take!

Cheers from the UK, Carl

Excellent.

Ray, Chorus length was one of my concerns for this one as well. It's length precludes me from adding a bridge (which I really enjoy writing) but my attempt to increase the tempo to make room for a bridge didn't seem to fit the lyrics/production very well. Thanks for listening and I may have to consider chopping out a couple chorus lines if the NSAI evaluator agrees with you and me.

Hi Dewey ...

Yep, the lyrics are just right. I'm a huge fan of pedal, so this one was a particularly nice listen. As I listened, I was thinking who the vocal style reminded me of. Then it smacked me in the face (ouch!) - Joe Nichols. Cool song - really nice listen!

This a song to be playing on the jukebox at closing song.

I see nothing amiss with the lyrics. All good.

Darn good song. I like the melody.

The lyrics made sense as soon as I saw the title. wink

And... nothing about the song disappointed. Excellent write, nice inner rhymes, fitting arrangement and well sung.

The whole package!

Funny/sad story cleverly written with an excellent title, definitely makes sense. Not my genre, but the lyrics made me smile and the vocals sound perfect for a country song. The band is bit unnoticeable, I think this song might work better with just a man and a guitar.
