So man, I just got sick and tired of sitting around waiting for someone to write me a song that would sound like the Smiths. So I decided to do it myself!!!

There's been a lot of androgynous 80s stuff coming out here.

Take this!

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs4/never-gonna-get-a-life

NEVER GONNA GET A LIFE

V1

Live with me mum
And she’s alright
Stay in the bath
And drink Bud Light
Can’t find a job
Never wanted one
But I’m not sorry
Cause I love me mum
How can they say how can they know
What I am thinking
Even I don’t know

CH

Don‘t touch me now
I’ll be all right
Don‘t need a boyfriend
Don’t need a wife
in my pajamas
I feel at home
I like myself the best
When I’m alone
And I’m all right
I’m all right
I’m never gonna get a life
never gonna get a life
Like everybody else does

V2

I see the world
How people live
Living lives that are criminally bogus
and they're out of touch
and they're out to lunch
Do you think somehow that I wouldn’t notice
How can they say
How can they know
How much I hate this
Cause even I don't know

CH

Don ‘t touch me now
I’ll be all right
Don‘t need a boyfriend
Don’t need a wife
in my pajamas
I feel at home
I like myself the best
When I’m alone
And I’m all right
I’m all right
I’m never gonna get a life
never gonna get a life
Like everybody else does

[Repeat]

David,

This is hilarious, but it's also AWESOME!

Love the vocal. The instrumentation and production is really excellent. Very creative!

Morrissey would be jealous... smile

Bud Lite?

Lots of dissonance going on but I'm guessing that's what you were going for.

Very original - goord to hear - earthy and I love the organised chaos of the rhythm track!

Cool cover.

You are writing some goodgoodgood stuff....

The tracks here work perfectly for the song.
Nicely mixed.

Channeling David Byrne, I think.
Those aren't pajamas, that's your suit.
Good choice.

Dig it.

Seriously? This is way too good to be a joke song, though it IS funny. You captured The Smiths sound (including JM's guitar) way too perfectly. I'm going to pack in my The Smiths tune until the buzz over this one dies down. Will take a while. Excellent tune!!

When read The Smiths mentioned, I was expecting quite melodic song in the style of This Charming Man, but I assume this is their darker side collaboration with Talking Heads. Very appropriate title, hilariously gloomy lyrics, great sound and effects - I really enjoy those bit out-of-tune mosquito guitars and mysterious chords. You know how to obey "have fun".

I'll take any song you dish out, David. You are often on my mind when I create songs that are in the elusive genre.

Man, your lyrics are always such a treat. Yeah, you're alright. This is one of those songs that seems to start with the idea "I know this guy..." Yep, I know that guy.

Well, written, well performed and well mixed. Well, well, well, you are consistent.

Enjoy whatever happens!

You've the Draize Train bit down well.
Actually the backing is pretty good - needs some Johnny arpeggios or chime I suppose.
The lyrics are quite a fun parody of Misery Mozza's.
I really enjoyed that one David.
Thanks.

David,

I like this one a ton . . great feel, engaging out of the gate. I think the whole backing is pretty killer and your vocal works so well with the sound you’ve created . . . shades of Bowie here as well . . . and maybe some Talking Heads? Good, good stuff!

All my best,

Deej

Cool!

A bit of Talking Heads, and a lot from bands I didn't listen to because I was never cool. wink

The fact that I can enjoy it without catching all the references speaks to the musicality.

Excellent job on the vocal convincingly not sounding like David Snyder, too!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

David, at first listen I was saying WTF? Now I just finished my fourth listen and it has grown on me exponentially. bogus/notice-nice. I love the interesting and unexpected chord choices. It does sound like Talking Heads but also most importantly like DS. It’s a good thing he is in NC where they have basements to hide in. Here in SW Fl we have no basements. What a great listen, Tom

David,

Fantastic!
It's a very unique sound.
I don't think it was created by imitating someone else's style.
It's very original.
It's definitely David Snyder's work.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Straight out of the 80s! Some kind of Smiths arrangement with David Byrne voice and even some Bowie vibes. Nevertheless completely original composition. Enjoyed listening very much. I liked the unusual chord progression in the chorus. Very clever!

Herb,

If you meant cognitive dissonance, yes, that is the theme of the song.

We never listened to the Smiths but your vocal sure reminds us of Bowie.

The “organized chaos” comment by DC Ron is exactly what we were thinking.

Way cool, David!

Hi David,

I had to look up who the Smiths are/were.
Listened to two songs of them; "There is a light that never goes out" and "I know it's over".
After that I knew I hadn't heard from then, but the songs are good.
But before I did that I listened to your song.
I loved it! I loved the way you sing it, what you sang and the band itself. So on your SC I wrote 'Wow'.
I think I haven't done that before, although I like your songs a lot. I think this one had that extra tough I like in a song.
But... you didn't sound like those Smiths and I'm glad on that. This is much better.
Try BeeGees, maybe you come up with another great song!

Hans
