Something has changed. Normally RB is very stable for me but something has changed.
Now, every time I do a save on a song I am working on I get an exception violation error (at address 00000004134DC, RB 64.exe at address FFFFFFFFFF7).
If I continue, working on the song and then try to save it again, I get a "Unsupported File Extension (.TMP) error
What I've tried: 1. Close and restart the program - no change even on other songs that have played well in the past when I try to save them 2. "Reset to default settings" under Options - no change even on other songs that have played well in the past when I try to save them 3. Renamed Realband.ini under my C drive to OLD RealBand.ini - no change even on other songs that have played well in the past when I try to save them
Could really use some help here guys, I've got a nursing home gig coming up and am trying to do some Christmas songs.
Jeff

jeff.
i might be wrong and ymmv but it might be a data corruption or a disc issue.
heres what i might do
..if on net get off n try. system might have picked up something. ..do your other music apps work ok? eg biab with no probs ? ..assuming you have ultrapak drive for usb then plug it in... if rb works fine off up drive shipped by pg then i would suspect once more a file corruption. i think rb uses windows temp folder for interim activities like creating tmp files. Pg will know.. ..do a new rb project from scratch plugging in rt's etc etc if no probs i would think a file corruption in the seq. occurred. if still probs would suspect a bad drive sector.
as i said i might be totally wrong/out to lunch as its difficult not being there... so ymmv blah blah and hope you get it resolved.
seriously post back if all is copacetic not useing c drive but but operating direct off the pg supplied one with a new project test.
thats all i got sorry.
om

OM, I believe you solved it! I took your advice and reloaded my original 2023 Realband from the USB stick PG shipped on top of my current version 6 install. That rolled me back to the original 2023 release. Then I updated that to RB version 6. So far, it seems to be working fine. Somehow a file must have gotten corrupted....such wish I knew what caused that!
Very much appreciate your kind advice and guidance.

Jeff.
glad you're up n' running.
Is everything still good today after a few hours' use ? no more exceptions ? just thought i would check as ive been out all day with my wife.
if all good do a ton of backups mate of your critical stuff. i use old drives from old pc's people give me i put into cheap enclosures plus a usb dock that has two ssd's in plus ive been testing out el cheapo 25 buck new m.2 ssd's in cheap enclosures hooked up over usb once again. work great. 50 bucks for a m.2 plus enclosure. I'm paranoid about back ups…lol… and even keep extra back ups separate from the studio at another location.
Some other tips…
..just in case your useing the net and rb on the same pc. i keep my rb studio pc off the net ,...etc etc. so no chances of corruption of the studio pc by malware etc etc. i use a cheap 90 buckeroo chromebook for the net. I figure the 90 bucks is a good investment to protect the studio pc. ..over time the windows temp directory can fill up with lots of junk files.. if your pc hasnt had a 'housecleaning' for a while you might consider taking your pc to a qualified pc tech for a check up. as well as getting the pc tech to check out your drive(s) are working optimally eg C etc etc….and your pc.
just some ideas….wishing you all the best.
happiness,
om

Happy to report OM, that after some 6 hours of use, RB appears stable and functioning as normal with no issues. Thank again for your help.

Jeff Hi Jeff. I'm glad you're up and running! I just wanted to mention that renaming Realband64.ini, I also rename RB64.cfg. These two files seem to work hand-in-hand with setting RB's operational parameters. I also make sure that I rename these files when RB is closed down. I don't know if this would have helped, but it might be useful information for some future time. Regards, --Noel

Jeff i had over 100 songs created in RB and played them live using the Jukebox feature and slowly they began to corrupt. I never figured why. But i took the good ones and copied them to a thumb drive and then when one corrupted i deleted it and added it back in from my thumb drive. That worked for a while. I then slowly switched over to BiaB and never went back.

Good thought Rob! I currently have a bit over 250 songs in RB that I run from RB live for my nursing home programs. I keep thinking that I should take the time to covert these over to MP3 to cut down on all the equipment I have to haul around. Between the audio interface, the MIDI interface, 2 external synths, the speakers, the Furman unit and miles of wires, it's getting to be a bit much! I do back everything up onto an external HD but I don't carry that with me...your idea makes sense in case there is a problem on site. Thanks!
Jeff
