More class from the entire team.

Quality lyrics, matched by absolutely quality vocals, and the choice of time signature fits perfectly.

Takes me back to the old days, Floyd.
The difference in low and high register on the vocal sounds like two different voices.
Nicely done.

Everything about this song sat very comfortably in my headphones. You, Danny, Bucky and Janice have done an awesome job. Oh... and I love this slow 6/8 feel that has a waltz-like ambience about it smile

Magnificent music!

The band sounds as though it were frozen in 1976 and revived recently. Love your voice in the lower-than-normal register.

Many of the Country charted songs back in the day weren't even half as good as this. You, Danny, and Bucky have some serious writing skills.

Take care,

Alan

Very nice of you to say, Alan...

The production is stellar, hitting all the right spots. I see why you copied the original bass over.

I would have liked the final chord held for a touch longer, as the ending felt just a touch rushed. That's the only criticism I can think of. wink

Thanks guys for commenting on my harmony!

This is EXTRAORDINARY. For me, by far your best, so far. Janice is PERFECT (I don't say this lightly) with the harmonies. And your vocals are absolutely PHENOMENAL. I've never heard you sound so gentle, so soft. Usually, you have a difficult story to tell, or something of the kind ... which necessitates a "raspier", or a more "wizened" voice tone, perhaps? (or perhaps I'm just rambling, but ...) . This is a change of gear, for sure ... you're still telling a story, but in such a different, softer way ... and wow, what an end result.

CONGRATULATIONS to the both of you, as well as to your co-writers, of course. What a collaboration, what a song.

Thanks for the wonderful review, James...

If my Google search is correct, Danny Mayo died really young (49 years old)! When did you write this in the early 90's?

Dewey

Thanks, Dewey. Yes, Danny died too young. On his birthday. Danny birthday celebration at a writers' night where he brought a group of his co-writers to play (Danny did not play or sing). He had gotten a room at the Ramada next door (he was not going to drive home after celebrating). He had a heart attack in his room. We all spent the rest of the night in the parking lot. Dazed.
Sad. We had been friends for quite a while by then...

Floyd and team,

Old school Country it is and wow it has been done perfectly!
The vocals are absolutely perfectly performed lead and background (Janice)
Love the soft backing, which supports the vocals so well!

Another beauty to add to your awesome catalogue!

Thanks, Ron. Somewhere during the 70's I stopped listening to Country radio. Then picked it up again in the 90's. Did not care for much in the '80's.

Great job. I like the song.

Thanks, Herb. Dickie Lee was one of the writers on fall-to-pieces. He happened to be in the room next door (writing with Bob McDill) when we wrote this. So maybe some of that mojo was seeping through the walls.

Thanks, David. I will admit that I am quite often sloppy with endings. Leave 'em 'til last and then forget about 'em...

I really liked the way the arrangement started simply and then built as the song went on.

Love how warm your voice sounds, it fits perfectly with the lyrics.
Just when I thought "hmmm, that's a bit too even for my taste", you come in with the break at the beginning of the chorus and Janice joins in.
That break turns the song into something completely different. Brilliant!
Great singing from you both, love those harmonies.
