Hey, it's the old guy again who's still dabbling in things above his mix pay grade .:)
The CLA Unplugged preset that I tweak per production for strings is called "String Canyon."

BTW as I listened to your tune again I was wondering, as I often do with your productions, whether or not you submit your songs to any of the sync libraries?
They seem tailor made for movie/series productions, etc.

Mario,

I always like your new-age stuff. You are incredibly good at it.

The violin (opinion) sounds like every note has vibrato (a lot of it). A few times that vibrato actually sounded like a fast tremolo.
To me, that makes it sound "not real" (because no "real" violinist would vibrato every single note)
So I would "vote no". Everyone else (except dcuny) seemed to "vote yes" - so grain-of-salt.

Still... a good listen.

Mario,

You have proven once again that you are a master at putting these dreamy ethereal pieces together!
The violin is a great focal point that works so well! I enjoyed this!

Thanks, TB

Thanx "old guy" for suggesting the CLA Unplugged. I DLed it last night but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

No I haven't submitted to any sync libraries.

Very good point Floyd. Yes I did turn on the vibrato and forgot about it. I must correct that on my next violin lead song. Thanx for pointing that out to me.

Hey Mario,

This sounds great. Yes, the strings sound pretty realistic, but since you asked I will give my thoughts. (I would like to know what you already did though to make them more realistic.)

One, I think by default when most people hear strings coming in they assume they are synth strings because most of us don't have a chamber orchestra living in our house. smile Ditto for any violins. They will assume it is midi. (I don't think this happens as much with a BIAB fiddle because those real track violins sound more "raw".)

Just assuming they are samples will color people's judgment no matter how good they are so I have read some discussion out there on what you can do to "fool" people into thinking--oh no, these must be real.

Some of the suggestions include making them sound less perfect, by using the pitch bend wheel to make very minute, infinitesimal changes to certain notes so they are not in complete perfect pitch. (If you play violin you will notice it is awfully hard to always hit the exact right place with your finger on that fretless board, and imperfections are normal.)

Second, the volume level of a real violin is much less consistent than on a midi sample, no matter the articulation, so many suggest spending as much time working the fader in tiny increments to raise and lower the volume of parts, including those "infinitesimally mangled" by pitch bend.

Of course the list goes on and on.

So, yes, they sound really lifelike, but I know a lot of folks into midi are constantly using tricks to see if they can make even the finest libraries sound even more lifelike.

What are some of your tricks???

smile

Thanx so much for the great suggestions.
I did vary the volume but not the pitch; that is a great idea.
My tricks were:
1-eliminate that slur that made it sound like a theremin
2-expression - foot pedal
3-play mode - slider
4-bow position - slider
5-bow pressure - slider
