Hey everybody,
I use RB to create and stream backing tracks online. Part of my work flow involves using technology to make things happen, because I'm old and have a limited capacity to juggle details in real time while my audience watches. I use MIDI to do almost everything seamlessly without having to do it myself... but one thing that bogs me down is the fact that in Real Band (and Power tracks) the sequence will keep playing past the end of the song. This makes it hard to automate the starting of the next song.
So, here's my question: Does anybody know if there's a way to place a hard stop in a sequence? What I mean by "hard stop" is a way to make the time line stop progressing after the audio is finished. My automated hack for starting the next song fails if the time line is still moving.
For a long time I thought that it was based on how much data is in the sequence. It makes sense that if RB knows there's something out there that hasn't been played yet, it will keep marching toward that data to play it. But lately my projects go on almost indefinitely until I take action to stop it.
If there isn't already a way to insert an absolute stop point into a sequence (maybe with an embedded MIDI CC?) is there any chance that feature could be added?
I'm posting this here in case it already exists, and somebody knows how to do it. I will also post this on the suggestions forum. Thanks in advance for any help that comes my way.

Hi Pat. I hope you're doing well. Just a reminder FYI that I recall years ago RB had an issue with data somehow getting placed sometimes a hundred or so bars beyond the end of the song data and caused the issue you're having. That issue was resolved but may have reappeared recently. Maybe PG staff can look at one of your files and rule out that an old issue has returned. This might be an easy fix.

Thanks for taking time to respond! You've given me a track to run on, one I can maybe pursue without having to bother anybody from PGMusic

Hi Pat,
It's great to see you. It's been a long time! As soon as my RB is up and running again, I'll have a look and see if I can help. In Reaper, the easy way to do this is to simply define the end of the song. As soon as playback reaches that set time, everything stops.
Back in a day or so! --Noel

RealBand should automatically stop playing after all the MIDI events and audio events are done playing (and this includes muted tracks). If there is any audio (including silent audio) or any MIDI events (including controllers) after the end of the song, then playback won't stop until after those events are finished playing.

See my reply in your other post Pat for how I deal with what Jeff mentions. Basically highlight all tracks and Cut from the desired stop point to some ridiculous point like 2000-1-0 and use Close Gap .. this removes any of those extraneous events.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I had the same prblem ages ago when we used PT created files to play midi live. occasionally one song just wouldn't stop. rharv's solution helped cure the problem but it was only isolated tracks and we never found out why the majority of tracks were ok but one occasionallly had the problem

I don't know why it happens either, but I suppose a Midi track could get an 'On' event and never get the end event so it goes on & on .. I just know the method mentioned above has worked for some, but as Bob Calver mentioned, it has been ages since it occurred here.

I made an AHK script that will send a stop command when there is no sound for x secs or load the next song in.
