This Cold Spring I wrote this song quite fast, because I was strongly inspired by the cold weather this spring. Statistically speaking, spring was warmer than usually, but the statistics lie, the end of May was very warm, but April was quite an unpleasant month with several big snowfalls... Nothing new in the lyrics, I'm recycling my previous themes. I wanted the song to be just sad, not depressing or dark. That's why the arrangement and the mix have quite light folk mood and the lead synth vocalist Saros has a very soft sound. Not timely anymore, just a bad memory, but I wanted to showcase it for those who were waiting for my spring song, I hope they are not disappointed Based on style _LOAM.STY (Loam Folky Pop Country) RealDrums: AmericanaSlow8thsFred: a: Snare, HiHat b: Snare, Ride RealTracks: #4028: Bass, Electric, ModernCountry8ths Ev 120 #3552: Multi[Thickened=5] Vocal Oohs-Aahs, Rhythm Pop3-part Ev 085 #1006: Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment, PopCaliforniaSlow Ev 085 #3645: Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm FingerIndieFolkAccent2Mute3 Ev 110 #4200: Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm SongwriterGentleSync16ths Ev16 090 #408: Guitar, Resonator, Background Allis Ev 120 #3202: Guitar, Acoustic, Soloist LaidBackBluesyBrent Ev 100 Vocals: Synthesizer V Saros (lead), Jun (backing), Weina (backing) Mixed in Calkewalk by BandLab (Ozone 11, Nectar 4, Neoverb) Lyrics: I didn't ask for this cold spring I didn't ask the birds not to sing I asked for a girl I could call my dear together to melt snow with a cold beer. Every year I ask for just one song March, April, May to be gentle and long hand in hand with my nightingale seems that my wish is a fairy tale. I didn't ask for... Every day I'm grieving for forecast trembly escaping to my languorous past The fading scene with the fire, the storm the morning was cold but your lips were still warm. I didn't ask for... I cry for birds who came with the southwest breeze in the hope of a new brood saw the pastures freeze. I didn't ask for... I cry for blooms that opened their tiny buds they have reached for the sunlight met the hardened mud. ------------------- Janne

I really like the instrumentation in this song. We've had the same bizarre weather in the UK and summer hasn't yet started here - your music really fits today's weather! It's all down to the jet stream following winter flows and not allowing warm weather up from the south.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #17: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #69: Bring consciousness to it. #74: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #105: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Janne, this really sounds GREAT! Think you succeeded in setting a sad-but-not-depressing tone. Cool song, and nicely performed by Saros and crew. Really like the way you've got those resonator(?) guitar breaks popping out of the mix. They sound very "live" and had me double checking the credits. Anyway...must be nice to look forward to summer! They are brutal around here. Ha!

Hi Janne. You won me over with this creation. You must have spent many hours on putting these lyrics together. They flow very, very well. I love what you've done with Saros (and friends). The vocals sounded fully realistic to me. In addition, the production was awesome! It was a great band that you put together It's two highly delighted thumbs up from me. --Noel

Janne, this is a very appropriate song for this area. On any given day we oscillate from around 20F (6.7C) below average to around 20F (6.7C) above average. Plus it has rained about 3-4 days per week and that is way above our average rain amount.
The song is great. I really liked your vocal and your lyrics. The backing band was spot on. Great mix also.
Yeah, I've got O.C.D, Old, Cranky, and Dangerous.

Good choice with the arrangement--the lightness in the instrumentation kept it from being to dark. I like that piano. I made note of it because I might find use for that RT in the future. Again, excellent work with the synth voices. I imagine it must take a considerable amount of time to "program" them.

YES!! Yes, I couldn't wait to hear your take on this spring, Janne. Seriously though this is really cool. I really like the melody and mood. Your wonderful arrangement and mix brings this to the top shelf. You make me wish for a crappy summer. Vivaldi has nothing on you, brother.

This song was worth the wait, Janne. 😊
The light feel of the band does indeed work well with the sad lyric and we can relate to your cry for the birds and the blooms. One of Janice’s sisters lives in the NC mountains and she is always ready for the return of her birds and blooms in the springtime.
The synths worked well, the write was nice and you wrapped it all in a mix that sounds excellent on the Kalis.
Well done!
J&B
PS We have five days of spring left and the temperature is 98 F. Not a lot of fun outdoors!

Thanks DC Ron for your very pleasant comment Glad you liked the resonator parts, I was almost going to drop them, but the longing feel fit the mood so well that I couldn't. Yep, summer... May was dry and very warm, June has been colder and rainier, the coldness doesn't bother me, but those unpredictable and occasional showers... let's see how they will inspire me Janne

Hi Janne,
I listened to this over on Soundcloud 2 weeks ago, but I didn't have time to come over and leave a review. I've been pretty busy lately. Anyway, this is real nice. Love the acoustic lead and your excellent use of the synth voices.
And as previously mentioned, the piano track is marvelous. Your chord progression is amazing!
Totally loved it!

It's amazing how many songs you northern lights can write about the weather. I've already told you: move south That said, I think it's a really good song, with good lyrics that make me want to listen to the whole song, and a pretty good arrangement that gives the singers room to shine. Well done, Janne!

That's a good song. I like the dobro. Sonically the mix is sweet.

Janne,
It's true that it's a little sad for a spring song. Synth V's vocals match the melody well. The song has a folk feel overall, but the chord progression in the final chorus ("I cry for birds" and "I cry for blooms" parts) is fantastic and great. This really shows off your talents. By the way, although not as cold as in Finland, this year's spring in Japan was also cold. As a result, the cherry blossoms were late in blooming. And spring ended in the blink of an eye, Japan is now experiencing scorching heat of 40°C every day. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi

COOL...sorry. "With a cold beer" doesn't quite work in my head...just the phrasing and the crushed in "a". Apart from that it's really good and reminds me, melodically, of a couple of songs from JC Superstar.
Cheers rayc "What's so funny about peace, love & understanding?" - N.Lowe

It's true that it's a little sad for a spring song. Synth V's vocals match the melody well. The song has a folk feel overall, but the chord progression in the final chorus ("I cry for birds" and "I cry for blooms" parts) is fantastic and great. This really shows off your talents. By the way, although not as cold as in Finland, this year's spring in Japan was also cold. As a result, the cherry blossoms were late in blooming. And spring ended in the blink of an eye, Japan is now experiencing scorching heat of 40°C every day. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi Thanks Shigeki Adachi for your wonderful review of my song Glad you liked those final chords, I'm really satisified how they reflect my inner vision. Hope you can still write excellent music despite the heat Janne

Thanks Ray, I appreciate your kind review Yeah, I should work more on those little phrasing details. Hadn't heard of JC Superstar, very far away from my kind of music. Janne
