Early Ages on Soundcloud
Early Ages on YouTube

A mythical song about how it used to be and how it can be again.

A song that kinda bothers me because, although the idea of how it could be is fine, the inference of how it was is all wrong. In early ages we used more of our animal brains. What the song suggests is that we use more of our new forebrains as they were intended.

Style is _HARDY.STY (Hardy Blues Rock Quartet)

RealTracks in style: 2361:Piano, ElectricVintage, Rhythm MotownSlowBluesy12-8John Sw 085
RealTracks in song: 4234:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm MemphisBluesSlow128 Sw 060
RealTracks in song: ~1984:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm EZListening Sw 085
RealDrums in Song:BluesMondaySw8^01-a:Sidestick, HiHat , b:Sidestick, Ride
Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played guitar and I added bass and vocal.

Early Ages

There was a time way back in early ages
when stranger things roamed around this Earth.
So now we want to know how could we ever grow.
And what have we to show to prove our worth?

In early ages we all knew our place.
We wrote our history pages, and had to keep the pace.
Through all those phases we never called it race.
Let's wear our early-ages face.

Let's make these times our future's early ages.
Let's send them our concerns and love with hope.
We'll trim our history tree with truth more selflessly,
and rid ourselves of greedy misanthropes.

In early ages we all took our place.
We wrote our history pages, and had to keep the pace.
We seek the praises from some imagined face
yet bring our early ages disgrace.

Now is the time to learn from early ages.
So let's not repeat mistakes we know we made.
Let's not just leave a trace; let's make the grade.

In early ages we all held our place.
We wrote our history pages, and knew we had the pace.
We hope to keep goin'. Our history has more space or else we make what's written erased. How sad.

Marty...thought provoking to be sure...history is meant to be a teacher...some teachers we like and some we hate but both teach us something...right?...very interesting song...it's the first time I ever heard the word "misanthrope" used in a song...I know I've said this before but you and Dave are a match made for songwriting and producing...the track was gorgeous and the performance flawless...and if history has taught me anything I suspect this will not be the last interesting piece of music coming from you my friend...roll on!

Marty and Dave, ya'll have a knack for playing stuff that taps right into my happy place. Excellent EVERYTHING on this! Am also in tune with your philosophical target for humanity, but am also thinking there might be a detour or two on that journey. And so it goes...

Great Lyrics and subject matter ... I like the bluesy groove of the track. Your mix is spot on, sounds like a full band. Like the guitar leads. Nice Job ... Great video also.

From the get go this sounded ace...Dave does that doesn't he!
Rounded bass tones and rounded mellow vocals sit beautifully in the mix.
Ace narrative and a fab song.

Ah, the A-team*, Marty and Dave, has still got it.
This is a good song, with lots of heart and soul and rock and blues.
Dave's guitar work and Marty's bass lines are first class.

* In this song, though Marty and Dave are really the Am team 😂.

Thanks, Dan. A people lover like yourself would naturally pick up on that word. Some may not be teaching us, but we still learn things from what they try to hide.

Haha. Thanks, Mario. You are so right. The animal brain seems to come naturally, whereas the God-given parts require selfless effort. Gee, I didn't expect to be such a philosopher today.

Thanks much, Ron. Yeah, there have been plenty of detours and many more likely to come. It's a fantasy song for sure.

Thanks, Elliott. Funny thing about the video. That was done quite a while ago. Gemini no longer does people. Probably liability issues.

Interesting and original idea for a song. I don't believe I ever heard one on this subject. This would make a great next Schoolhouse Rock song. smile
Chorus is catchy and well sung. I recognized Dave's guitar from the first note. Well done to you both!

I quote my YT Comment: Beautiful song, Marty. The Blue A guitar noticeable from the start and superb as ever.

I recently saw a documentary on a literal tribe of chimpanzees in Uganda, which was actually quite disturbing as besides there being a lot of competition for alpha male, the main guys having supporters and who very badly best up the previous alphas, they went on group hunts for monkeys which when caught would be torn limb from limb and eaten, most chimps only sharing the spoils with their own cabals. But one big guy who went on regular group patrols to protect their territory from invaders also went out on his own to spy on neighbouring territories with the long term aim of invading. As I watched the documentary I kept on thinking, 'Here comes the next species to start killing for no good practical reason, but just for the excitement of it.' One of the naturalists who spent months observing them said that he originally thought that monkey hunts only came when fruits and such were scarce, but then he realised that there was always food around at the time of the hunts and that hunts were primarily for the thrill. Sort of "We're the alpha species and we'll prove it by killing and eating you weaker guys." So I've no doubt that early humans were pretty much the same. Even today emotional territoriality rules in governments (Party A vs Party B) and in international politics: "Your land has resources we want, so you must let us control you or we'll invade - and all civilians are expendable (collateral damage)." I don't think there was an ideal past.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#17: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#69: Bring consciousness to it.
#74: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#105: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Another pleasant blues song of the modern age with timeless melody and chords. The philosophical lyrics made me think...I like optimistic thinking, unfortunately when times get tough, we tend to forget history and rather to follow some pied piper.

The arrangement and the mix is very good, well in balance, the bassline is nice and Dave definitely knows how to play blues - he doesn't repeat mistakes because he never makes them smile

Thanks, Scott. It's a fantasy --not even Bob Durough would've thought it. Yet it's likely just as accurate as most history classes.

Thanks, Chay. Perhaps we've set a bad example for the other species.

Marty and Dave,

This is awesome! your tunes are always a pleasure to listen to!
I knew that was Dave playing without reading anything with that signature searing tone of his!
Super musicianship on display by you both! Marty you knocked it out of the park on this! Your vocals are perfect for the song!

Thanks, TB

Wow. Superb song - and what a message, so well delivered, too. One of my favourites from you, without a shadow of a doubt.

"In early ages we all knew our place.
We wrote our history pages, and had to keep the pace.
Through all those phases we never called it race.
Let's wear our early-ages face."

Brilliant.

Dave’s guitar is excellent.
And your vocal is packed with soul. Yeah!

The electric piano is perfect for the vibe and needless to say your bass is spot on in tone and chops.
Your mix sounded outstanding on the monitors.

The lyric is really evocative and for us instilled a lot of contemplation.
And that neat video made us want to rewatch Avatar! smile

Kudos!
