Many of the replies in these forums will address in turn various aspects brought up in a thread by quoting snippets from previous replies.
(I couldn't seem to find how to do that in the FAQ)

Thanks in advance!

You can go to the post you want to quote and click the Quick Quote button in the lower right corner. This will start a Quick Reply post (like this one). You can click Quick Quote multiple times in a single Quick Reply. There are a few other tricks, but this is the basic step...

Unless I wish to quote the entire content, I do it like this.
Select the desired text and copy it to the past buffer <Control-C>
Start a reply
Manually enter the text "[ q u o t e ]" (with no spaces) then paste the selected text and then manually enter the text "[ / q u o t e ]" (again with no spaces).

Your reply will look like this:
Quote
(with no spaces) then paste the selected text and then manually enter the text

To quote an entire post content (which is separate to your inquiry), just press the Quote button:

My method is to start a quoted reply from each of the posts I want to quote, then cut and paste their content into the one I want finally to use, then just discard the unwanted replies. I delete any content of the quotes I wish to omit.

While preparing one of these posts, take care to attribute each quote to the correct person. I’ve been the victim of a misquote that made it look like I said the opposite of what I said, and then that misquote gets further quoted. That’s one proven way to tangle up a forum. 😕

I also use ellipses … if I am quoting only part of what was said, so it’s clear if I am not quoting someone’s entire post. That’s another possible hazard though, to ensure you aren’t changing the meaning by taking part of the words out of context.

You can use the Preview Reply to see how it will look, before you click Send.

Good idea. I also use an ellipse (...) front and back if necessary to show I am only quoting a relevant section of of larger post.

Yes, also ensure that by quoting a smaller section that you don't change the overall context of the message.

You used an ellipsis so I guess you are having a little fun, but if not, let me know and someone will explain a little further

Ahhhh. If only I had such skills. The old three-letter word trick, eh? ... Who would've thought? wink
