I replaced the single coil Strat pickup on my guitar with a Seymour Duncan little 59. Designed to be a small version of the 59 PAF humbucker classic.

I'm liking it a lot. More testing to do but it has a fatter sound than the old brittle sounding Strat PU.

Don't know why the photo isn't showing....

Yes Herb that is very nice work. t looks like it came from the factory that way.
I'll be waiting for a song that features that pickup.
Am I at assume that the bridge pickup is a split coil pickup?
Also what brand is that guitar? By the pickup selector I don't think it is a Fender.

It's a Chinese Fender. The bridge is a humbucker split coil with a phase reverse switch. It came with that.

The new pickup was a direct replacement. No cutting, routing, or trimming required. The swap was all of 5 minutes including soldering.

How'd you get a tele with that many frets to start with?
Isn't one supposed to be on an angle near the bridge and one by neck base?
I thought they were dual originally .. confused

This is the modern tele. It comes with 3 pickups.
Neck is a tele style PU
Middle position is a Strat style PU that's the one I replaced with the humbucker that has the same footprint
And the bridge PU is a dual coil bucker.

Nice, Herb. That should give you some new tone options for sure. You didn't mention it, but you could split your new pickup as well. Had a strat with three split single-coil-size humbuckers and a 5-way switch. Ten sounds, seven of them hum cancelling. It was a lot of fun. Enjoy!

I've never really used split pickups as a function. Yeah this guitar has the coil switch but I rarely use it. I leave it in-phase all the time. I like the beefier gutsy sound. So that wasn't something I had even thought about. As it is, I have 5 pickup combinations and the tone knob to get the variations and if I don't like that there's always my 69 Gibson SG custom with the factory pick-ups that has always been a good sounding guitar.

I bought the tele as a work guitar because my SG is getting a little bit worn out.... It could really use a fret job and some other work but.... The luthier that looked at it, and he is highly regarded for his craftsmanship in the guitar community, said he wouldn't really be comfortable working on it because he'd never be able to get the binding off in one piece and he would have to do a lot of replacement parts . Not an impossible job but cost wise, way more than the guitar was worth and likely way more than I would want to put into it. It's still totally playable and raising the strings slightly avoids the fret buzz to get a few more years of playing it. Since I don't use it much.... It's not going to be a problem. Anyway.... Long winded story ...I digress .
