Hi, I have quite a lot of jazz standards in my BIAB library but would like to be able to include a couple of choruses to practice bass solos over. For this I need the comping to drop right back to just the occasional piano or guitar chord and the drums to drop to a fairly simple tic/pattern.
Are there any styles that would suit this, any tutorials or any tips and tricks to help me do this?
Thx

In the Style Picker, there is a Group column, with a number alongside the group type. The lower number indicates simpler styles. From the help: "This column also shows a “genre score,” which describes a style by a simple number from 1 to 100. This works as follows: quiet, classical, acoustic, jazz, or folk would have low genre scores (1 to 30); loud, aggressive, or heavy rock would have high genre scores (80-100); and light-medium pop would have mid-range genre scores. You can filter the style list by the genre score with the “Other” filter button either by choosing a pre-defined range or setting your own custom range. For example, if you're looking for a quiet “living room” type style, use the filter to only show styles with a genre score less than 40. This might show jazz, classical, folk or other quiet-acoustic styles." Additionally, you can also use function <F5> to mute certain instruments at specific locations, or lower their volume etc.

Additionally, you can also use function <F5> to mute certain instruments at specific locations, or lower their volume etc. And if you want a piano stab, you can do a shot on that instrument. How well that works depends on the style. Notes ♫

Consider a DAW to your workflow. Volume automation will take care of most all that pretty quickly. Easily splice in/out simpler parts for choruses you want simpler.
Many other uses for the DAW in your workflow. I think the quality of my backing tracks has improved considerably since I started. Yes, there's a learning curve. Yes it takes more time. Yes, it is better.
I use a lot of BIAB backing tracks I create. I also often use iReal Pro for shedding a new Jazz standard. If Im playing bass I just use the EQ to drop down on the bass part. Styles aren't great but they are good enough. Quick and easy. No, the changes aren't always correct, but neither are real books or "Free" piles of biab songs available Often iReal Pro gives me some ideas about how I want to create a BIAB backing tracks.

It's slightly more complicated than the help implies - the "genre score" for any particular style is only comparable to other styles in the same genre group. For example we've got Jazz styles with a score of 90 and Metal styles with a score of 50. This doesn't mean that the Jazz style is more intense than the Metal style, just that it's more intense than most other Jazz styles.

Simon, yes that makes sense. I am presuming that the O/P would be selecting similar genre styles.
