I recently shared a tribute to WW2 submariners on the Showcase. And it just came to me this morning that I was most definately inspired by Life in Dark Water by Al Stewart who I highly admire. The lyrics are in the YouTube description which all these years I never paid much attention to. The thing with Al is, you can stand to learn something from him. For me, in this song, it was Marie Celeste. I'd be interested in submarine songs others have come to enjoy.

I really enjoyed the "SSN Blues" played at 44:52 in the video you posted for "Up Periscope". In the section of the video that follows, a sailor talks about the hard shell that submariners form around themselves due to the clandestine nature of their mission. This is perhaps why there aren't a lot of song about life as a "Bubblehead", as they refer to themselves. The submariners that I knew had sharp minds and a positive outlook, traits that no doubt come in handy in their unique mission...
