Out Of Your World
Copyright 2017 J. Merritt & B. Merritt

This is a newly tweaked version of Out Of Your World first posted 8 years ago. It’s one of the few J&B country songs we were still creating at the time (although Janice’s accent causes some folks to think all we do is country. 😂 )

We came to PG Music in 2011 as longtime band members playing bluegrass and acoustic country although throughout those decades we enjoyed blues rock and Americana. Genres that BiaB has allowed us many fun years of creating songs as we drifted further from country.

Back in 2017 we heard a new album by Mark Chestnutt and after years of hearing only “bro’ country” we loved the album as it harkened back to the heights of the George Strait and Alan Jackson years.

So our writing this tune was a result of hearing that release. The album contains a song that begins with a long chorus and then a short verse - a structure we used for this write. Oh, “Jack and coffee?” Think bourbon. smile

So here’s Janice … The Country Side. Those not on the forum then might find it interesting after all our blues productions. Thank for anyone’s time to listen and comment and for tolerating my ramble. And to PG Music as always. Lyrics on SC.

Janice: vocal, arrangement and progression
Bud: lyric, mix and mastering

Janice & Bud,

I remember this song! Love this "tweaked" version as much as the first one...

An absolutely awesome vocal by Janice with some really great phrasing. One of her best.

The mastering on this version really kicks it up a notch. The clarity of the overall track is outstanding.

As I said in my 2017 comments - Country is back! smile

J&B:

Nice old time country sound to this one. Something Patsy Cline might have done back in the day . . . and Janice's vocal does it mighty, mighty fine. Excellent production--clear, crisp and very pro. Never heard the original I don't think, but don't think it gets much better than this. Outstanding!

Thanks Bob! We appreciate you revisiting it very much. I do wish this type of country would re-emerge. Just listing to Alan Jackson sing The Blues Man makes us very much miss that period.

Appreciate the kind remarks.

This is stellar. Purely stellar. When I forget about everything and just listen, I know I've found a great song. The whole thing is, once again, wonderful ... vocals, writing, production ... for me, here, the writing takes it over the top, but all of it is top notch. Well done.

Hi, J&B.

You two do country and blues? (Yeah, I know the punchline is "country and western". So sue me).

What's there to say? Everything sounds great! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

J&B, fantastic tune! Love the write, and the vocals are superb, as always. You had me at the steel guitar opening, and didn't let me go until the final note. Stylistically, this reminds me of the wistful sadness in many Gram Parson tunes, which I love.

Missed this on initial release, glad you reposted!

Janice and Bud, this is country at its finest!
The first thing that came to my mind was this could have been written by Willie Nelson and sung by Pasty Cline.
Janice singing country? Hell Janice can sing any genre!
Great mix, great song.
Loved it.

Now that is the kind of country I love listening to! I always love your productions Bud, and as always Janice's vocals shine, but especially with this. It's like you were born to make this kind of music. So many times I hear this style when I'm gtrying to write a song, but it always comes out so differently when I've got it finished. You guys have pulled it off with perfection. I'd like to be able to make sugestions, but how do you improve on perfect? Maybe just by saying - do it agian, and again and again ....

Thank you so much and we also love Gram Parsons so mentioning him means a lot to us. Appreciate the mention of the write also!

A classic country song with excellent lyrics. Janice's vocals are great as even, though I feel her voice as more bluesy than country, even in this song. I'd love to hear sing some lour rock, too! smile

Hey!

I started playing guitar professionally in 1963 - one generation prior to this style. But, this is the style of country I played for many years. Alan Jackson probably is the most recent popular singer of pure country, as far as radio play is concerned. Merle Haggard did his part, too. But I wasn't as impressed with some of his later stuff. And their time has come and pretty much gone.

But it's always a pleasure to hear his music.

And it's a great pleasure to hear you folks. Music like this defines what pure country is/was. I'm okay with some of the modern country, but this flashback to those golden years is the perfect vehicle. Janice's voice, your mixing, and whichever of you did the arranging, is just so dang good. what a great song and fantastic listen!

Take care,

Alan

Thank you Mario. It was fun revisiting this. Our write in the same sentence with Willie and Patsy? Generous to the max! Humbling.

I remember this song!

Excellent write and vocal, and a top notch mix.

Nice to revisit an old song and tweak it, I've told Chris that one day I'm going to do that with some of our back catalogue. Not only are the tools much better now, but in my case at least I have better mixing skills than I had then.

Nice hearing this again!
