Hi Forum,

I'm searched the UI and forums and cant seem to find an answer to this seemingly simple thing. Working through a song and need to make key changes at certain places in the song, mostly because BB doesn't deal with enharmonics and the chords are weird. It's showing the ii chord in B Major as Dbmin7 and the V chord as Gb7 but the I as Bmaj7. A kid in a middle school music class will tell you that this is wrong. SMH.

Any thoughts on how I can get this to be correct on the page?

Thanks!

BIAB does show enharmonic chord names but you have to scroll down the list to find them. It shows the flat chords fist—keep scrolling to find the sharp chords.

Thanks for the guidance here. I'm on BB for Mac. Got "chord options" and "chord builder". Don't see any chord lists that I can scroll in either of those places. Should I be looking elsewhere?

I'm not aware of a chord list of all chords available in Band-in-a-Box for Mac however the Chord Builder window may suit your needs.

The top of the Chord Builder window has two tabs, Progression Builder and Chord Picker. Selecting the Chord Picker tab opens the window below.

The Chord Picker window presents all the chord variations available in Band-in-a-Box.

Looks like I don't have that option available on my version BB. Cray, I just want to add a C#m7 chord to this project.

I think that this is because the list doesn't show the enharmonic C#m7 equivalent, but the Dbm7 should give you the same chord structure.

Hi Simon,

I'm building songs as practice beds to run exercises through12 keys. It's not about discovering what chords are available in BB, it's about having them displayed correctly on the page. Dbm7 is not the ii chord in B. Enharmonically it's the same, but it's musicially incorrect. Very much so. Am I to believe that BB has no way to address this?

Thanks,

Yes, maybe that link could be added as a 'sticky' somewhere?

I do not have a problem with enharmonic chords—I just don't.

I type in the chords instead of using Chord Picker — I know it exists but it's faster just to write them in. I do avoid the chord forms not supported in BIAB ( - ° ø △ etc.) and stick to the ones in the chart referenced earlier.

Here are a couple of screen shots from a recent chart in G#m. I click in Key and a chart comes up where I can select the one I want. If you have problems with this in B, select G#m as I did — same key signature.

I've uncovered another clue here. I set this project up for tenor sax, reading Bb. When I set it back to C - concert the chords lay out correctly. when I "set visual notation transpose" that's where it gets weird. BB defaults concert Bm7 to Dbm7 instead of C#m7. I even changed the key on that measure to be in the key of A thinking that BB would logically display the Bb transposed notation in the key of B. I'd call this a bug, unless there is still some other way to override this.

Yes, that might explain the unexpected behavior. I would think that very few people have explored nuances of such key changes and including setting keys for different instruments.
