Hi all,

I bought a second hand Lenovo Yoga and run Biab in fron of my keyboard to play along.
For midi sound source I unclicked the DXI sound creation and use CoolSoft VirtualMidiSynth with some soundfont library.

When I start a song the audio drums play way in front of the midi sounds. Having tried to play with the latency did not work.

Any ideas?

Cheers Stefan

You can't "play with the latency", you have to remove it. Are you using an ASIO driver? That should be the fix.

Band-in-a-Box for Windows has a midi to audio latency adjustment.

Control+E opens Preferences.
Select the MIDI Driver button
Select the Latency Adjust button.
A style will load that has audio on one channel and MIDI on the other channel.
Adjust until both left and right channels emit sound at the same time.

Notes:
(1) When you use a soft synth BiaB automatically adjusts the latency between the soft synth and audio.
(2) MIDI THRU ignores this setting when you use an ASIO driver because use of an ASIO driver implies you are using an external keyboard or sound module.

I am a bit lost here. When the OP says keyboard does he mean his computer keyboard?? crazy Cause if it is a Piano Keyboard (which I assume) then I use my ASIO driver in BIAB with an external midi piano keyboard, not problem, no adjustments, no latency and no external sound source.

I use the Long One.

About this statement, “ Having tried to play with the latency did not work.” could you elaborate please?

A bit of my humor maybe, with the word "playing". The OP said he was "playing" with the latency. Well, latency has to be removed or reduced to the level where you can not hear it in order to play with the band. No one "plays" the piano out of time with the rest of the band.

Other than that I really have no idea what the OP has going on. So ...nevermind. grin

Sorry for the confusing message. The doorbell was ringing and I had to finish the post :-(
I was hoping the principal issue is clear. But I wellcomed you suggestions and will elaborate on my situation.

The windows laptop (Lenovo Yoga) is connected to my Yamaha keyboard via the headphones audio jack from the laptop. From there I want to use the best possible sound source to playback the songs of Biab so my intention was to try out soundfonts of which I have plenty to try out in contrast to the Coyote DXI from Biab itself. For this reason I was picking as MIDI output driver CoolSoft VirtualSynth as to try out the various Soundfonts I can determine in this SoftSynth. Only trouble is, that I prett much never now, if I found a different sound source than Coyote that is build in Biab.

With the settings I had then, I experienced a huge lag between audio and midi sounds while playing a song.

So setting it to ASIO did solve apparently my latency issue --> Thx DrDan. But I am not sure, if I really listen to Coyote or to Soundfonts from VirtualSynth. I flagged the "sent to midi through " checkbox below the "VST/DXI Synth" checkbox - otherwise I only here audio sound with ASIO activated.

I assume the 2nd note from Jim will tell me something when using the mdi through option - but I am not perfectly clear if that means, that I use the soundfonts in this case as it is my intention.

Thanks for all your wise and helpful comments, while I try to get out of my novice status since ....forever - with this ilustrous program.

Looking forward to hearing from you (all) ....

Yours sincerely
Stefan

In the MIDI Output Driver dropdownlist I choose "VirtualMIDISynth#1". Behind this should be one of the soundfont libraries.
I did a check to get more clarity about if this is giving the sounds to the songs and put the commandbutton "VST/DXI Synth [CoyoteWT]" to <>None. With that I have only audio from the drums - no midi at all. So I guess I always hear Coyote DXI if I have midi sound - never the soundfonts I would like to try out. :-(

This as additional information.....
