Hello,

the Realdrums have a very nice live character that I would not want to do without if possible.

Unfortunately, I cannot turn down various drum instruments such as crash cymbals, sometimes the kick or the snare in the presets. This is because there are only a small number of Realdrums where you can export individual stems of drum instruments in order to edit and mix them separately in the DAW.

Although I have reduced the volume of the drum instruments in question by -10, -20 or even by minus 40%, saved this and restarted Band in a Box, I cannot hear any noticeable difference in the volume...

What could be the reason for this? Can you turn down individual drum instruments in the settings mentioned?

THANK YOU in advance for any hints.

I wonder if the use of a parametric equalizer (or the PGM Five Bane EQ) added to the Drums track would help? Just a thought.

Thank you👍
Correct, ultimately I will probably have to regulate this with a dynamic equalizer (e.g. Sonible "Smart EQ 4" or "Frequency" from Cubase Pro) that influences the corresponding frequencies. But it would still be great if the function offered in the presets for reducing the volume of the respective drum instruments somehow worked. Because there was a lot of thought behind this setting option. The grooves themselves are often really good, so I would sometimes be reluctant to swap them for other grooves from e.g. Ujam, Image Sounds, Toontrack, etc.
🍀

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there are probably other/better EQ options. Hope this works out for you OK.

🍀👍I'll try it out when I get the chance and then write another two or three sentences about it and give feedback.

Current addendum:
I've since learned that the thing about reducing the volume only applies to MIDI-Drums, not to Realdrums. If you have the stems for a drumgroove, you're fine, of course, but as we all know, stems aren't available for all Realdrums. I've just added that. Stay creative ;-)

Yup, that's correct. Most Realdrums are mixed down to a stereo mix, meaning that individual drum volumes cannot be changed.

Check out TDR Nova, it's a fantastic free dynamic EQ and I find it often works great for these kinds of changes. The upgraded paid version is inexpensive and adds expansion instead of just compression, well worth it imho.

Thanks for the info, Simon!
You know what you're talking about and you're absolutely right: TDR NOVA is a free and very popular plugin and very efficient. I also recommend this plugin.

Happy to help! And yeah, I use Nova on nearly all of my projects in one way or another.

I also noticed you mentioned other plugins like Toontrack etc - since you likely have a number of drum plugins there's another route you could go. All of the RealDrums in BIAB are live recordings done with acoustic drum kits, but when recording them we also set up MIDI triggers - this MIDI data is used in BIAB as notation, however it can be exported in a MIDI file which you could then import into your DAW and use whatever drum plugin you want. This wouldn't be quite as "live" sounding as using the RealDrums directly, but depending on the plugin you use it would allow you to adjust the mix as desired, swap out different drum and cymbal sounds, change the groove, etc.

In the main BB app exporting MIDI can be done in a couple different ways - here's a tutorial vid:

In the plugin, it's as simple as dragging and dropping the "Chart" button into the DAW (once the tracks are generated).
