Hi Dcuny,
Actually your suggestions are extremely helpful and educational; nothing is "obvious" to a newbie. Thank you for taking the time to listen so closely. I realize somethings will always come down to personal choice (or lack of choice) but you've definitely steered me towards some essentials I need to improve the song. Thanks!

Hi BYOBand. I agree you made a good start. Nice lyrics and instruments. Not too many, as many newcomers tend to do with BIAB. Take down the bass a db or two and raise the vocal a touch, add a little reverb overall and that should improve things.
Onward and upward. Vic

I just noticed where you live. We've been holidaying in the Charente for a number of years. We were In Jonzac about 6 years ago. Not far from Brossac. Lovely area.

Here's a version with the bass dropped back and the vocal brought forward with some reverb (hopefully not too far). Anyway, for anyone who can bear listening again... https://soundcloud.com/divinemetime/the-love-inside-2

Hi, Beth.
Sorry, I should have been more specific about how to set the reverb level. It's really easy to add to much reverb, and the new mix is swimming in it. It's especially apparent because you don't have many instruments in the mix.
As a rule, turn the reverb up until you notice it. Then turn it down below that point, so it's it's still there, but not something that people will actually notice.

I don't have an ear for mixing, it seems. I also don't know how to undo it!

Well, we tried to listen but SC states that the track has been removed. Regardless, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome and for making me aware of the broken link. I think it's because I reuploaded the song. If you still want to give a listen, you can find it here: https://soundcloud.com/divinemetime/the-love-inside-2

Welcome!!! Good songwriting. Catchy tune. Instrumentation works. With experience and trial and error, you will learn the tricks. Production sounds good, but I would nudge the vocal up just a little.

Had a little trouble with the links in the thread but was able to find the song via your soundcloud profile. This is an excellent song. Loved the vocal and lyric. Well done...

Glad you found it, Scott. Can't seem to edit the original post again. The version you heard was remixed in-line with the helpful suggestions I received here.
