Here is a new song that got overlooked at the end of 2023. Kind of a food for thought song.

This song was inspired by the Arthur C Clarke short story "The Star"; one of his best.

Traveller
(from a dying star)

the data`s in
recorded in ruin
my supernova mission
to answer the age old question
tomb of time on Cassiopeia Prime
a dying race deep in space
was the stranger a fiction

now we know that celestial beacon
blazing the end the end of all reason
sent to earth for birth death and war
last ditch message we choose to ignore
given to the fire
searching so far
he was a traveller
from a dying star

no panacea
a dying world`s pure idea
save us from ourselves
dreaming heavens making hells
i press send interstellar light bends
read the traveller`s truth in my gravity booth
as fusion drive swells

now we know that celestial beacon
blazing the end the end of all reason
sent to earth for birth death and war
last ditch message we choose to ignore
given to the fire
searching so far
he was a traveller
from a dying star

What a coincidence! I was listening to Tagore Covers seconds before opening your track. They went together seemlessly. Love your lyrics and phrasing. I like that Oriole style too. Fits perfectly.

What a cool song, you had me from the sitar opening. Super arrangement and production. I especially like the doubled vocals and the guitar accompaniment. And that's a VERY nice outro. The music has a very dreamlike quality that swaddles the lyrics perfectly. Great job, you two!

Hi Scott.
Well, the lyrics sent a small shudder of gloom through me.
I imagined a crowd of hippies linking arms and searching the skies.
Really effective sounds.

You gus are so eclectic. Another captivating song in an enthralling video. Masterfully done. Man, your guitar sings some special feel, Scott. Very tasty. And Robert, your vocals always add so much to grab the listener, and your video creation is uniquesly satisfying.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Spirit Level music always sounds like sent to us from another galaxy and this song just strengthens the impression. Enjoyed the space poetry which boldly goes to places no song has ever gone before, "save us from ourselves/dreaming heavens while making hells" sounds like a strong warning... Great sounding band with spacy sound and the ending duet between sitar and Scott is perfect. Always difficult to express how your music makes me feel, this time the words "celestially extra-ordinary" came to my mind smile

Really interesting concept piece - haunting - and a great production.

The sitar is perfect as is your fine playing.

Excellent mix and a nice choice of session players.

The lyric is supported very well by the travelling feeling from the music
Robert’s vocal carries the vibe theme really well.

We love the mini movie and now want to read the short story it is based on.
We've read a lot of Clarke but not the short stories.

Enjoyed it y'all!

Hi, Scott & Co.

Cool sound, solid work by everyone.

Interesting take on Clarke's idea. It's been a long time since I read "The Star", but still remember it.

Love the ending.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

What an interesting and original song. I'm not familiar with The Star but I thought the production/mix was first class.
The band (orchestra?) was particularly impressive - the sitar was a nice touch.
I always look forward to Spirit Level tracks because of the always sublime guitar work from Scott - and he doesn't disappoint here.
Great work guys.

Scott & Robert,

I never know what to expect when I click on one of your songs. But I know I won't be disappointed. Original and interesting sound!

I liked the prominent drums in particular. But Robert's vocal delivery and your guitar also shine. That's no surprise. The sitar added an element of "good eeriness".

Simply excellent.

Hi Robert and Scott,

You made me curious. Was this song overlooked in 2023. By this forum?
But whatever. You both shined in it. Robert on the vocals and lyrics and Scott on the lead.
Cool song!
I read in one of the posts here, it looked like songs from another galaxy (I think it was Janne).
And that is -in a way- how I also think of this song and atmosphere; a bit hallucinatory (in the good way).
Enjoyed it,

Hans

Scott and Robert, this is an excellent song.
Great vocal and lyrics.
Sweet guitar leads.
A super backing band and mix.
