This is an original song I've been working on with a buddy of mine (who is not a member here). He did the drums and the more melodic/picking guitar. He also gave good mixing notes and a lot of moral support along the way. Everything else is on me.

Here's the song: I Was Here (SoundCloud)

As with everything I've done up to this point (I've been recording for about a year or so), my "studio" consisted of mics/amps into a Scarlett 2i2 into an iPad running GarageBand. So there are lots of imperfections in the recording and mixing, but I'm proud of the end result regardless. Feedback is welcome!

Lyrics:

Wildflowers underneath a darkening sky
And she cries
As the hillside fills her up
She spots the sign that says "Utah 50 miles"
And she smiles
'Cause the time is almost up

[Chorus]
I just wanna scream "I was here"
And chisel my name into the canyon wall
And when the echo screams "I was here"
I won't have to feel alone at all

She breathes deeply of the evening mountain air
Aware
Of everything at once
She floats above the troubles down below
'Cause she knows
There's nothing left but love

[Chorus]

Nothing left but love
(I was here)

None. I wondered if that would be an issue, but I read the rules before posting, and it only said to identify the BIAB tracks IF you used them, so it didn't seem to prohibit songs without. If I'm misreading, let me know.

First line at the top of this forum page: The User Showcase is an area where users of PG Music products (e.g. Band-in-a-Box or RealBand) can post links to their original song compositions, for others to listen to and comment on.

You can certainly post your songs that don't use PG products in the Songwriting and Off-Topic forum without too much kickback. A lot of new folks don't understand the decorum but for future reference.... Just post in the other forums.

Edit: Technically, one could read that as as long as you are a user of BB/PG products, you could post a non-BB song here. However, even us long time users who write non-BB songs hesitate to post them in this forum choosing instead to post them in the other forum threads.

read my edit.... above.... no problem... It is a good song, well done and probably will not be deleted, but I don't control that. Post more songs with BB/PG and that becomes a less important issue. What we don't want is for this to be a "dumping ground" for every wanna-be songwriter on the internet. That's the reason this is an important deal to us here. We do have a good community of folks who listen to and comment on each other's songs. You're welcome to be an active part of this group.... I'm assuming you do have some PG products on your computer.

Shawn, nice song! Love this kind of breezy power pop (maybe too much). Really nice vocals and cool guitar break. Nice clean production, too. As Herb said, folks here will be a lot more interested in your tunes if you feature some BiaB content. Welcome, and enjoyed your song! Ron

Thanks so much Bob! I'm still pretty new at mixing, and this one gave me a lot of trouble. Glad to hear the final result sounds okay.

Hi, Shawn.

Nice pop, well sung and played.

The mix seems a bit bright, but it might just be a cold creeping into my ears. Nice harmonies over the maj7 chords. smile

You are correct, you can post songs that don't use BiaB. But since the forum is for PG Music users, you should at least demonstrate that you use the products in some way. People do occasionally post songs not using BiaB, but that tends to be infrequent, and they'll have typically posted songs using BiaB prior to that.

After all, why be on a forum for a product if you're not using it? laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?
