STARDUST

Hi Folks,

Here's my version of the immortal "Stardust". A 1927 song composed by Hoagy Carmichael. It has been recorded as an instrumental or vocal track over 1,500 times.

Vocals: Nigel Spiers
Bass: Neil Swainson (1385)
Drums: Craig Scott (JazzBrushes)
Sax: P.J. Perry (490)
Guitars: Oliver Gannon (555, 2804)
Organ: Chris Nole (675)

Nigel, nicely done once again! Your expressive vocals work great with this style and this song in particular. That's a nice band: Always enjoy hearing Oliver's jazz guitar work, and the sax sounds like he's dialed into this tune as well. Snappy little ending, too. Great job all the way around!

Nigel, this is fantastic.

The backing tracks are perfect for your vocal.
Great mix.

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

Nigel,

This song has special place in my heart. It was the very first "complicated" pop song I learned to play on the guitar in 1964.

And you did a marvelous cover of it. The vocal is superb (always so) and that sax just topped it off so perfectly. Thanks for a great listen.

Alan

Hi, Nigel.

It's always nice to hear your voice, and it sounds great here.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Nigel, I normally don't listen to covers but STARDUST is such a classic I had to give it a listen and I'm glad I did.

Great job!

Hi D C Ron,

Thanks for all your generous comments - much appreciated.
Sax - yes I find the BIAB Sax's fit into complex melodies better than all other soloists.

Best Regards
Nigel

Oh, you have the perfect voice for a classic standard like this, Nigel. Excellent version in so many ways. Great band choice. That sax solo slays (as our granddaughter would say). Well done!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Nigel,

Your original compositions are great, but the old jazz songs you sing are also amazing.
Your choice of RealTracks is just perfect for this song.
"Stardust" is one of my favorite standard jazz songs.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Nigel - I clicked on the link and got the following error message:

"This track was not found. Maybe it has been removed"

So, unfortunately, I have not yet been able to listen to your rendition (which I'm looking forward to).

Hi John,

I just clicked on the Soundcloud link he has posted and it took me to the song with no problems. I would guess either he "fixed" it, or for some reason, your computer/phone isn't reading it correctly. Cyberspace comes with a lot of strange, unexplained machinations!

Hope all is well in Pensacola. I know it's out of the direct path Milton took, but those fringe area can throw you a curve sometimes. Any way, hope all is well.

Alan

PS: It's a real nice version.
