One thing I would really like to see in the next version, and it should be a really easy lift, is anywhere that offers MIDI Patches, instead of just the standard GM patch list, if you are using a .pat file, the option to select that file. In fact, Peter, since some of us do use .pat files, and usually only one of them, it would be nice to be able to select a specific .pat file and make it the default for the entire program, so if a dialog opens up and you need a patch, if you've selected a default .pat file, it loads that one instead of the standard GM list.

Although this does not apply to me I can see a tremendous value for those whom use hard synths so +1.

Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

I would be interested to read PGM's response to this suggestion. Is this an easily achievable and useful concept, and / or has this already been implemented? it seems like an obvious feature.

I thought this was already implemented. Once I set my .PAT file for my Roland Integra, I don’t need to set it again unless I Return to Factory Settings, All. So I would like to know more, especially what is meant by ‘anywhere that offers MIDI patches’.

Matt,
"So I would like to know more, especially what is meant by ‘anywhere that offers MIDI patches’." There are several places in the program where you can select a MIDI patch. I can't list them all right now, but it seems to me that all of those places don't offer the ability to use Higher Patch Files at all, you're stuck with GM sound patches, and no way to select higher banks.

Sorry for the late reply, we are still unpacking, and putting stuff away, and other things that draw my attention away from this.

Gary

Gary, no problem. Take your time. Let’s work this one situation at a time.

I select patches by right-clicking in a MIDI track in the mixer, and selecting Higher Bank (or something like that; I’m not at my computer). If I recall correctly, BIAB already knows the .PAT file I selected before. I don’t think I know any other way to do it.

At one point twenty years ago, I knew more about this because there were no RealTracks, and I wrote a couple of the PAT files on the Support page. That’s a long time ago!

Hiya Matt,
For instance, in the Soloist dialog, if I want an instrument, under Database on the right hand side of the dialog, where it says 'Choose (1)', I get a limited number of appropriate MIDI instruments, but even the drop down next to it only gives me GM patches. The same applies for the Melodist. Obviously, once that generated,I can go to the mixer and change it to the patch I want, but I still think it would be easier if you have a default .pat file with all the instruments of your choosing.

Thanks, Gary. Now understand. I don’t use the Soloist or the Melodist, so I didn’t realize this was a limitation.

Matt, I don't usually use them either, but I noticed it.

Your question is a good one. I could see someone changing patches in a soloist.
