I've been sitting on this one for a while. I just decided to finish it today.

The Band:

BB drums
Bass 2915
Finger picked guitar 365
Solaria on vocals
I'm playing the following: Lead guitar in the solo, piano, and strings (violins & cello)

HOLD YOU NEAR

NOTES: I'm using Dim LE for the strings and Sample Tank Brandenburg piano. This also uses Trivox for the harmony vocals. And the lead guitar is using a new Quilter amp which is analog, for the guitar.

Comments, observations, and questions .....

Enjoy.

What a great sound. Solaria never sounded better, very natural, alive. Really nice song, modern yet classic. Excellent mix, production, and it all fits like a glove. NICE !!!!

Excellent choice with Solaria. I really like how you developed the melody. Those strings sound perfect, and I really enjoy your guitar adding just the right touch. The piano with the fingerpicking guitar lays down the best backing for the vocal. Good write, Herb.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Sensational. The first thing I looked for was who provided your vocals. I have to say I was very surprised to see Solaria. This is really excellent, and the vocal sits perfectly with your production. An excellent mix. The stops are orchestrally perfect. Lots to like.

A great job. This is a keeper, for sure.

Thanks Ron. Sometimes less is more. To me, it's often more about what is left out rather than what can be added, just because I can.

Sad song, but beautiful in every detail, all the elements support the message and made the song touch me. Very pleasant mix.

Excellent work with Solaria, gave me the feeling that I would like to buy a whole album by this great sounding artist. Good idea to start with just Solaria's voice.

Thanks. This one went in several directions before I settled on this version. Those DimLE strings ended up sounding nice (IMHO). The guitar licks were the last thing added. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

AudioTrack... thank you. Solaria is a game changer for the synth voices. The technology simply blows my mind. As I've said before, it's the details that make the difference. I don't often work with orchestral instruments but having a tiny bit of exposure to orchestral music, it's important to "think like the players" when composing those parts. Stops, pauses, the articulations, are all a part of it. I'm glad you enjoyed this song.

Lovely song.
Mix wise there're a few spots that stuck out such as when there's a guitar chord emphasis that buries the vocal "near", 0.31 & 0.55 sec" and I found that "be", 0.22sec ,from the synth vocal was quite cutting.

Cheers

Hi Herb,

This is very good - lovely melody and well sung.

My only suggestions are:

1. Would loved to hear a big bass when she starts the second verse.
2. Louder Guitar in the instrumental break.

Excellent.

Best Regards
Nigel

Thanks... yeah... kinda sad.....Touching the listener is the goal of every songwriter. I'm glad this one achieved that goal with you.

I think that starting a song with just the singer, tends to draw people into the song from the very beginning. I really like doing that. I heard a songwriter, someone who has a few number one hits make the comment that.... 13 seconds is the longest time you should spend in the intro, less time is better but having no intro is the best way to start your song. Let the singer start it off cold.

Mario.... thanks.

I'm excited having the Quilter. It's not as versatile as the Spark with all the FX and stuff.... but what it lacks in versatility, it makes up for in simplicity and tone. The Spark tended to break up, and not in a good way as a note faded. The Quilter doesn't. Since I have always preferred a simple tube amp with no FX pedals, this just seems to make more sense to me.

Thanks for listening to the song. I'm glad you liked it.

Reminds us of Taylor Swift during her country phase.

Nice open mix with some tasteful guitar.

Smooth and well done.

Wow ! Melody, rhythm, arrangements and...superb vocals. I listened to a few tracks tonight and I realize that there are some excellent composers and performers here on this forum. I'm going to stop here, otherwise I'll be up all night... Thank you all for these beautiful pieces
