I just bought the course. There is a lot of material. Even the beginner guitar course had a few new ideas I had not thought of.
I am currently working my way through the ear training course.

I also have an annual subscription to TrueFire. Most of TrueFire is more beneficial for advanced guitar players.

What are you guys studying?

Billy

Currently in Week 4 of a 12 week session given by David Wallimann. Primal Guitar course takes me back to basics with practical study of intervals and composistion on the guitar.

https://davidwallimann.com/

My annual subscription goes to MuseScore for access to sheet music when needed.
I also have a lifetime membership to Pianote for piano lessons. https://www.musora.com/pianote

BTW, I am a big RB fan also. I am sure his offerings would be of value.

Hi, Dan,

I spent a few hours yesterday reading through the course. It is pretty much the type of thing you would see at a university. Very jazz-structured guitar studies. One would also need to play piano or at least have some sort of keyboard to complete all the lessons.

The beginner guitar section is elementary at best.

The ear training is interval based, which is a very advanced method. There are tests involved. On the pitch and timbre test, I took, I got 100% on the first try. The identification of harmonic and melodic seconds required three tries to get the 80% needed to pass the test.

Major and minor thirds are difficult to identify because they sound different in different keys. There is some science that indicates that this is not the most effective method for ear training for most people.
It is a pretty standard method in any event.

Almost all the harmonic examples are jazz type of progressions containing b5,#5,#9, #11, and 13th chords, and both dominate and major sevenths. Those are chords that not every guitar player would know unless they were a jazz player.

Bottom line, I think the course is well worth the $99 dollars if one is willing to study at a university level. Depending on what you currently know and how skilled you are, this course could take a considerable amount of time to complete.

Most of the TrueFire courses are advanced and assume you are an advanced guitar player. There are at least a hundred different units covering very specific information in different styles of music. It cost $200 per year and is well worth the money. Many of the units are being presented by very famous musicians, Brent Mason for example.

Ear training really needs two people to work together to do it properly. I would be willing to work with anyone over Zoom who would like to do that. Of course for free.

Cheers,

Billy

Thanks Billy for posting this. RB advertised it on his latest video too. The 4 courses for $99 expires on Saturday, late morning. I may check it out before it expires.

I’ve been checking out Rick Beato’s training courses too. Just got started and wow, there’s a ton of material! Even the beginner stuff had some cool new tips I hadn't seen before. I’m really digging the ear training course right now. I also use TrueFire, which is great for advanced players but sometimes feels a bit overwhelming.

Oisakk, welcome to the forums.

Rick Beato is generally very thorough with his music material.

Glad that you like it.

Recently, I tried some music lessons online. Found a lesson that helped me get a grip on a tricky technique I was struggling with. It was super helpful and really made things click for me. How’s everyone finding their current studies?

Rick has a son, Dylan, who has perfect pitch, and has been seen to deliver some absolutely amazing results. Phenomenal. This is 8 years ago!
