Hi all,
I'm really impressed with Jamzone - it is doing exactly what I hoped to use Band-in-a-Box for many years ago, but my musicianship wasn't good enough to enter full band parts close to the originals...a tall order for most non-professional musicians.
How do you feel about this program ? As far as I can see, it's the first and best of it's kind - possibly a one-and-only for right now.
While PG's products built from the bottom up - this company seems to have built from the top down...what interesting contrast in approaches. I suppose PG moved in the direction of Jamzone as it added RealTracks.
If you have used songs from a particular artist , and you have compared any of the jamzone recorded tracks (bass, drums, guitar, etc) to the originals, please share your critiques.
TIA, Joe

Firstly, I'm not familiar with Jamzone tracks, and after looking at their web site, I'm asking this question: Can you enter the chords to your own songs, and create your own backing tracks, or do you choose from a library of ready-made songs that have one of more instruments already 'removed', that you then play along with?

Hi Joe,
Do you mind posting a link to Jamzone? That way any comments will be for the same site you're thinking of.

I looked at several pages from this site: https://www.jamzone.com/performers.htmlIt seems to indicate a 'catalog of songs' that are available.

I have done several parties and functions with jamzone. I bought into it before went subscription based and own about 130 songs I find the quality to be a bit less than Band in a box but ran through the proper system then do sound great. I set them up with the proper key for me. Then i deduct the instrument i want to play and eliminate the lead vocal. dial in the volumes and use it as a backing band. Some time you can steal a familiar riff or track and add it into the BiaB track and roll your own. Jamzone is a cool option. https://www.jamzone.com/

You can give it a free try with several of their sample songs. It seems to me to be a karaoke-version style company (if not the same) that has built the app around it's multi-track recordings of professionally recorded cover bands, i.e. a karaoke company that has now commissioned a digital app (creator) to wrap the live multi-track recordings in an app that provides the chord symbols, lyrics, and digital mixer. It is clearly meant for karaoke singers and cover band amateur musicians - NOT for originals or writing. You cannot edit the songs the way you would in a DAW - it's not meant for that. But you can loop and there is a map of the different song sections on top (e.g. "Verse", "Chorus") that you can quickly navigate to. I don't even think the app runs on a PC, which is my preferred way of interacting with music programs. You can download Bluestacks and it will run the demo in there on a PC. It has Android and iOS versions. In original recordings of the artists, I often had trouble really hearing certain parts of the guitar or bass when trying to learn the parts. Ideally I would like to have an app that clearly separates each instrument - but I've found these apps less than effective. The next best thing would be jamzone - but I imagine that the bands that recorded the covers are sometimes very true to the orignial parts, other times not (depending on the skill or commitment of the transcriber). https://www.jamzone.com/download/

Jamzone - interesting. I have never seen this that I recall. But what you have clearly defined is very much similar to https://www.karaoke-version.com/ which I always felt was my secret. Pro cover bands with full custom multitrack backing in audio files which load right into your DAW of choice. No sign up fees and each song you select from a huge catalog is $2.99. By the way I would give Karaoke-version a 9 out of 10 on the quality of the bands performance. The only issues I have seen is tempo tends to drift more than I would like. They provide a "metronome" track but I never felt it was a true tempo map.

Dr. Dan - same parent company - they are obviously branching out. I was ecstatic to see this, becuase rather than pay 2 or 3 dollars a song, you now have access to their whole library with a digital subscription.

I'm really enjoying Jamzone - highly recommend both for learning, also of course performing which is it's primary sellilng point. They have a facebook group, and I recently asked about the studio musician recordings - here is a blog about them How Jamzone's Catalog is produced

At least on Tomplay, you get the notation and tab for your chosen instrument. You can print them out, too. But... You are limited to the songs they have transcribed. Same for Jamzone. Same for MySongBook in GuitarPro. For the kind of music I like to play, I have little to no use for apps like these. At least MySongBook supports buying credits (1 per song) in addition to a monthly or annual subscription. One credit costs $2, but they offer a pack of 20 for $20. That's the way I go. 20 credits will last me way more than a year. GuitarPro 8 now has very good sounding instruments AND you can add your own backing track (from BiaB!) to play/practice along with. JamKazam has backing tracks you can purchase, but their main focus is to provide a platform for musicians in different locations to jam or practice together over the internet (audio AND video). Over the many years they've been in operation, they have developed a really solid backend. Recommended. Back to JamZone. On the "Performers" landing page, the first little sales blurb is titled "Pro Quality for Pro Musicians". OK. But this is the photo posted next to it. A right-handed bassist "playing" a lefty bass with right hand positioning guaranteed to cause a wrist injury. Pro my patootie.

Thanks for sharing Journeyman, I had never heard of Tomplay and have not tried out mySongbook in many years - going to add them to my list of 'toys'. All the amazing tools I wish I had when I was younger are now available to me at (almost) 60 - I think had I had these things in my teens I would have been a much better musician by now. Next the next big jump - how do I develop my own style instead of copying others....not sure that's in the cards for me this lifetime : ) If it was, it probably would have begun already.
