Does this simple standalone app exist ?
yes there are brilliant mastering apps out there but haveing met mastering gurus in the past in studios i realise how brilliant these people are at their craft compared to many of us like us songwriters. i know my limitations. my prob is i have various songs done that started in powertracks yonks ago that people have told me they like but they are 'rough' eg a bit of distortion here and there. some ive even tried to redo in commercial studios in the past but people seem to like them in their 'rough' form. this has bugged me for ages...lol.
ideally for this mastering dummy i would love a mastering app for dummies which did the following...
1..analyses a stereo master 2..offers a couple of alternative settings and 3..creates a result that cleaned up superior to the original.
i was hoping AI might do the above.
please dont suggest big mastering packages to me. ive looked at them and imho i am not qualified. for mastering gurus obviously with expertise they are great. its the same as i'm not qualified to be an indy race car driver...lol.
any ideas for a kiss product ...one or two knobs preferably...lol. reason i know i'm useless at mastering is ive met mastering pro's in the past and was amazed at their expertise. also some of the nicest people ive ever met who wanted nothing from me. lovely people.
happy upcoming xmas to all.

om, I would suggest looking into Toontrack's EZmix3: https://www.toontrack.com/product/ezmix-3/

The Master feature built into Tascam stand alone digital multitrack recorders is very robust, has pre-sets constructed by Mastering engineers, doesn't require any knowledge above being able to load a SD card with your song on it and selecting the Mastering section and a pre-set. The mastering section can also be done manually and has both a single compressor and a multi-compressor. The DP-24/32 models have the most comprehensive mastering features.
Checking the current used prices on Reverb.com, a stand alone unit price is in line with good mastering software packages.
BIAB Ultra Pak+ 2024:RB 2024, Latest builds: Dell Optiplex 7040 Desktop; Windows-10-64 bit, Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz CPU and 16 GB Ram Memory.

Whichever direction or product you choose I'd recommend one that allows you to use a reference song -- not just to listen to but to let the app create that sound in as much as possible. We use Ozone. Feed it the reference tune and it will do its thing in about 10s and create a module chain that you can tweak away to your satisfaction.
From our current productions to songs we recorded live on a tiny cassette recorder many years ago we continue to be impressed with the results. I know you expressed no interest in a mastering app per se but even if you don't tweak the results they still way improve the mix and all with a few clicks. No doubt there are many other options, And FWIW this mercifully doesn't have anything to do with AI.

I use Ozone 10. It's straightforward, easy to use, and it delivers a very nice polished final mix.
Most of the time, I simply add it to the master buss on my DAW and let it do it's thing. It analyzes the musical content, tells me what genre it is with a very high accuracy rate, and sets up a mastering chain for that genre. Often, I really don't have to do anything else. However, I will often turn off the maximizer module in the chain since it tends to really drive the wave form into a brick.
Aside from that maximizer issue, I recommend Ozone 10 as one of the easiest ways to get a nice polish on the final mix.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I agree with the Ozone recommendations. You can just press the buttons and let it analyze and master automatically. Or, my preference is to select a preset and often that does the trick with no further tweaking (but you can tweak if you want!) You'd be hard pressed to find a better mastering tool than Ozone!

1..analyses a stereo master 2..offers a couple of alternative settings and 3..creates a result that cleaned up superior to the original. Sounds like you're looking for Ozone. The Elements version may be enough for you. If you're looking for "punch", Ozone will give you that. I'm also a fan of Lurssen, which offers a number of presets to choose from, and a handful of knobs. There's an automateable "Push" knob for when you want to drive some parts of the song harder than others. Lurssen doesn't have as much "punch" as Ozone - it feels more like a "classic" master to me. HoRNet ThirtyOne MK2 is a nice "magic" plugin you might want to check out to add to the mastering chain. HoRNet often has 85% off sales (one is ending in a couple hours as I write this), so you can get their stuff cheap. Their HoRNet MasterTool is OK, but not in the same class as Ozone and Lurssen.

thank you all you lovely people. appreciate it. will look at your recommendations.
re ozone i thought i might find it overly complex. ..does ozone elements have the simple presets ?..its just i would prefer some thing cheap as tech changes soo much. ..what about the others mentioned ? ezmix looks affordeable ?
i guess i feel i'm a mastering super dummy as ive been there in the room when mastering pro's have done their thing..just amazeing what they can do.
my wife is looking for something for me for xmas...lol.
anyhoo thanks once again and upcoming happy xmas to all.

Yes, Ozone is the first tool I started using that allowed me to get whatever degree of compression and EQ that was lacking when I compared my music to commercial recordings. It was the single biggest change in my recordings, ever, until very recently (some other tools I like). A side benefit is Izotope has a GREAT guide to mastering on their site. A must read.

and yes, Ozone has a ton of presets in the version I have, I doubt that has changed.
I'm a fan of finding one that's close, then tinkering with it, but the presets alone will do things you'll be surprised at.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

ok been checking out ozone and others.. will do more checking vids etc...but it might be too complex for this dummy. gonna try ozone trial also.
i just wish there was a simple 'make the song better' button. i used to leave mastering to the pro AE's.the problem is i get preassure from people that like my rough songs who want to see them out there. i'm not really interested in that...i would sooner do another song rather than bother. with the hassles of marketing etc. there are zillions of songs on spotify and from what ive heard its darn tough to get ones songs out there due to the huge new daily song volume.
Jim.
great idea re bandlab. i'll give it a crack.
i appreciate everyones input.

I've got a number of different tools.
If you want, you can send a file to me, and I can give examples of what the default options on some of the mastering tools sound like.
My recollection was that Ozone was dead simple - you'd play a track, the AI would listen and play pretty graphics, and it would pick what looked like a default EQ curve for the genre that it would try to target. Or you could just choose a default curve like "Pop" or "Country", It would also have some default enbiggening options set, so the compressors and limiter would maximize the sound automatically.
Lurssen has a lot of presets, so you can just pick the genre you think best fits, and the crank the knob until it's as big as you want.

dcuny.
your a prince...thanks for the offer. i might take you up on it...i just dont want trouble people.
ive sent some questions off to ozone..and ive got some free time coming up to try the trial. if i fall flat om my 'A' then if you dont mind i'll get back to you.
the main probs are i need cleaner masters....ie more clarity. i'll give bandcamp a crack also. i really am a dummy when it comes to mastering.
sorry to trouble you.
have a great xmas.

i might take you up on it...i just dont want trouble people. No trouble at all. If you're looking for "clarity", that's typically a mix problem. Adding high pass filters to all the tracks (except for the bass) will generally stop "mud" from building up. Performing similar EQ cuts on each track will keep them in their own frequency range, and stop them from stepping over each other. My favorite plugin for fixing this sort of thing is Trackspacer, which is on sale on regular basis. But it sounds like you want something that "just works" with the final stereo mix, and if a mastering plugin does it, more power to you.

If you download the Spectrum Matcher from Cockos/Reaper and spend a little time learning how to use it you'll be able to a) take a match of a finished mastered reference track and have the plugin apply this to another piece of music . It deals with EQ, levels and other things. It isn't specifically a mastering plugin and like any piece of kit it won't undo distortion within a piece BUT it's pretty cool AND FREE. I've used it to "faux master" a track to suss out how reverb & EQ will react with limiting etc. I still use an M.E. because I don't have the ears for the task and value to abstracted perspective an M.E. can bring.

does anyone know a contact email for ozone support ? (it seems there is only support screen for after one has bought the product ?)
i'm haveing difficulty finding out where to send presales questions re ozone.
actually i have had a tad of a breakthrough here. i used pg plugin dx optiion clik fixer etc in rb....then ive discovered fixer tools that are rather usefull in audacity. both seemed to clean up things a tad.
(btw i have reaper plus plugins etc here.)

If I was getting one iZotope tool, I would start with Neutron 5 Neutron which includes a license foe Melodyne 5 Basics/Essentials does anyone know a contact email for ozone support? Good luck with that. Now that they are owned by Native Instruments, getting to Support is a process and I don't know how to contact pre-sales. I know no way of contacting them directly, even the chatbot, without having an account. That said, there are some freebies so I would definitely create one and take advantage of it. You can try the iZotope Facebook Page . The best bargain I know to get Ozone 11 Standard is with Komplete Standard . If you have any NI products, upgrade pricing is pretty good. Other Komplete bundles include both Ozone and Nectar, a very good vocal processor with a tone of presets and the ability to tweak as needed. Komplete Bundles comparison Although you can use these VIs in Audacity, they can't be used in BIAB Windows since there's no VST2 support in Kontakt anymore. FWIW, I've had Ozone since v. 1 and Ozone Advanced since v. 2. I don't use it often but, when I do, nothing else takes its place.

mike thanks...i am mucking around with oz elements trial right now. i have to sayi like its simplicity and at the same time its power. for this mastering dummy its surprised me re results. ok ill try neutron trial next.
for me too many settings drive me nuts cos i end up mired in what setting i use cos there are many good ones in some music apps. so i have probs making a final decision.

anyone tried this mastering software ?? https://www.landr.com/plugins/maste...msclkid=a4db7159d81519042fe31676acd4a6a4i will mention i'm pretty impressed by both the simplicity and power and analytical approach of ozone elements and the mastering by genre approach. i'm trying also to get my head around neutron. looks great but might be more geared to mastering pro's. compared to elements. question...are there any other mastering plug ins with the ease of use of elements so i can compare ? merry xmas to all. om
