Hi,

Not sure if this can be done, my mother was a pianist, and she passed away several years ago. I do have several studio recordings of her playing the piano before she moved on.

It is possible to take those tracks of hers and turn them into a usertracks? that way it would be like she was still part of the music I record.

Thanks in advance for you input and if possible, the steps to create the user tracks from her recordings.

Danny

I would think so. UserTracks play to a chord sheet where the chord sheet defines what chords are playing at what tempo on which bar and in what time signature. The key is matching the chord sheet to the music in the audio file

Let the Audio Chord Wizard analyze the audio file. If the timing moves around too much, divide the audio file into small chunks and analyze the individual files. UserTracks can be composed of just one chord sheet / audio file or numerous chord sheet audio files. The more material the better.

Good luck, keep us advised and feel free to ask more questions.

Hi Danny,

What a great idea!

Jim's approach is excellent. With Audio Chord Wizard, you could definitely create a chord sheet that matches the audio. If timing was not fully consistent (as Jim mentioned), Audio Chord Wizard (ACW) has a function to equalize the timing of an audio file. This would adjust the audio appropriately and you would then have an audio file that matches a chord chart at a consistent tempo. This would work fine for creating a user track.

If you want an insight into how ACW works, I suggest you work through the step-by-step tutorial that I created at the link below.

Oh yes, how I wonder such user tracks can be produced out the piano recordings of her. Here’s a simple way to do it:
To find them, do it with the help of sound editing programs like Audacity or any other software from the DAW family, to delete the noise or edit the level of the sound if that is what she needs.
If you want to make several loops or to provide particular parts of the tracks as accessible as possible, just divide the track into parts.
Instead, move those segments into the recording software’s user track function (refer to your program’s manual for most programs, this is simple).

Thank Jim, Noel and Roycol, I am gonna try all your ideas,
Noel: thanks for the link about the ACW - I did not know it had the feature to equalize the timing of an audio file!

Thanks again for the great ideas, have a blessed holiday and Christmas!
