Sad Clown Blues on Soundcloud Sad Clown Blues on YouTube A song about a guy who's dad was a clown and all the kids loved him. He wanted to be just like his dad but now all the kids are scared of clowns. He's thinking maybe he should've been a dollmaker. Dave Bell ( Blue Attitude) played guitar. I played bass and sang. Sad Clown BluesMy daddy was a circus entertainer. He loved to make the kiddies laugh. So when I grew up it was a no-brainer. I'd carry on on his behalf. He said, "I'm gonna teach ya son all the tricks in how it's done, and you could carry on the cheer. He didn't quite foresee how the world was gonna be, and clowns would one day cause fear. It's a sad clown that can't be like his daddy. (Although I've paid my dues,) (I cannot walk in his big shoes). I am now bound to drive the people crazy just living my sad clown blues. I wake each day, apply my trademark makeup, but paint my smile upside down. There's no parties to attend since the breakup of the circus tents in town. And when I wander down the street in my oversized big feet the kiddies cling to mama's side. It's so hard feeling proud when they're screaming right out loud no matter how my makeup's applied. INTRO-- E E F#M B7 V-- E E A A E E B B E E A A B A F#m B7 CH-- E A A E E A B E (It's Blues. Hi Marty, Very original!!! Magnificent theme and development. At 2'25" (notably) superb sung note! And what a beautiful solo, I love it enormously. The finale is... special but at least it's unexpected. On headphones, it sounds amazing. Thank you for this superb title

Marty, what an extremely clever topic and an outstanding write. You and Dave always produce some of the most polished songs on the forums Loved it.
PS - I will have to play this to my son's friend as she went to clown school and is now a professional clown. It is her part time fun job!
Unclear if the pianist is a total beginner or a professional jazz player?

Wow, Marty. Just...WOW! The coolest write ever, and super guitar and bass playing. But your vocals are next level. LOVE every syllable, and the yodel on "now" in the chorus just never gets old. The vocal FX are quite lovely, and your vocal really pops in the mix, too. I'd save a preset for that. Think I've always thought this, but never more than now: Your vocals reminds me of Dennis Locorriere of Dr Hook. And I LOVE me some Dennis Locorriere. And I love this song.

Hi Marty.
What a super listen! I love the hook... Sad Clown Blues... it's such a clever title. Moreover, you make the hook work really, really well. Your arrangement is creative and full of character and you've matched it with equally creative vocals. I thoroughly enjoyed what you have done. Kudos to you. You have such great songwriting skills.

EXCELLENT!
Bob Thanks, Bob. It all came from that wherever-that-is place. Had some chords, started strumming and singing gibberish (my favorite language). Finally the hook was saying something about a sad clown. Then I had my only creative moment in the process. I paused, gave a pensive look to the ceiling, asking, "What makes him sad?" Next thing I know I'm asking Dave to add guitar. Hi Marty, Very original!!! Magnificent theme and development. At 2'25" (notably) superb sung note! And what a beautiful solo, I love it enormously. The finale is... special but at least it's unexpected. On headphones, it sounds amazing. Thank you for this superb title Thank, Paul. You knew I'd have to go see what's at 2:25. Oh, the "now" yoddle. Must've been a shout out to his clown friends in Switzerland. Marty, what an extremely clever topic and an outstanding write. You and Dave always produce some of the most polished songs on the forums Loved it.
PS - I will have to play this to my son's friend as she went to clown school and is now a professional clown. It is her part time fun job! Thanks, Mario. I have a few friends who are apparently clown wannabees who thought every school was a clown college. Hope she likes. Wow, Marty. Thanks, Ron. And not just thanks, but THANKS, RON. I like Hook and the Med Show. In 1991 I did a few songs in a Nashville studio with Rod (can't think of his last name) on acoustic guitar. He had some stories about Sylvia's mom.

Well done again Marty for the mix of song and video. I think we all have a sad clown side, because we know the end of the show! laurent

Deej Thanks, Deej. Hi, Marty. I can find no fault in a song that rhymes entertainer with no brainer! Fun listen, and well done! Haha. Thanks, David. Yeah, not sure where they came from, but those two were perfect for starting the story. Marty, I never cease to be amazed by your creativity! Such a great and entertaining write. Thanks for letting me join in! Take a look into your musical mirror, Dave. You'll see and hear someone who is very creative --you bring your Blue attitutde to any style. Thanks. Hi Marty.

Very clever lyrics, and your vocals get better and better with every song. This is the (second [*]) most unusual clown song I've ever heard, and that's a good thing, because I love it. Great production, and Dave does his usual guitar magic. Love it!
[*] There was a German band that wrote a song “The clown got the blues” (with German lyrics), which I also really like.
