Hello folks, I am on a new machine, and Widows 11 Pro, and I work with Cubase 14 now. Here a strange phenomenon. I bought a new interface, the Focusrite Scarlet 4j4. Everything works except that… there’s no way to make it playback my MIDI tracks made in different VST plugins (in this case NI's Ethereal Earth played through Kontakt) in my computer and CUBASE. The MIDI tracks indicators show playing but there’s no sound. I checked all busses, all outputs… it still doesn’t. My previous interface TC Electronic Impact Twin does it perfectly (but it is not supported anymore by the maker and has started to provoke bugs). And I work here and 20 years with my home recording with every upgrade of Cubase. I can’t imagine that a new generation interface would not be able to paly MIDI. So what’s the hic here? Could anyone give an idea ?

I don't think the interface would have anything to do with this issue.
Essentially, the interface deals with the audio coming out of the DAW. Whatever audio is being sent out goes to the interface and you can hear it. The interface is not involved in the process of reading and interpreting the data and making the sounds. Sound comes usually from the master buss output. Since MIDI is data, it has to be routed to a synth which plays the samples and provides that synth audio output to the master buss.
You mentioned you're on a new machine so I would check your software settings in the DAW and be sure you have your midi routed to the proper synth on the correct midi channel and that the synth output is routed to the proper place as well to be able to hear it.
One thing you should try if you haven't already done so is to freeze or render the midi to audio. I use Cakewalk and when i freeze the synth, it converts it to audio. I can see the wave form and it should play like any other wave file at that point. If it doesn't, you need to check your routing. And be sure you don't have anything muted in either the synth or the tracks.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

The Focusrite is an audio interface, not a MIDI interface. You need a MIDI synth in your PC, which should be easy to preove.
If you go to tag Misc->MIDI->MIDI/Adio Driver Setup, enable the checkbox "Use VSTi/DXi Synth" and then select CoyoteWT in the box below it. Assuming your audio from BiaB is working, that should be enough to get some sound. If your audio isn't working, then a little further down the dsame dialog is tyhe button "Audio Settings...[]" and in that try selecting probably WAS or MME (ASIO is a bit hit-and-miss). Do whatever OKs you need to get back to the main BiaB window and try it.

Ok, I found the problem. Yes, Focusrite does not generate sound from MIDI, my MIDI tracks are sent to VST players, but they had to be routed and I was not finding where are the settings for their output routing, which after quite a searching, I found. So problem solved !
Thank you all for your feed back !

Ok. the 4i4 definitely supports MIDI but the only way that works is if you had MIDI sound modules connected to the 5-pin ports. As you discovered, this has no effect on MIDI triggered VIs which you were able to solve.
The only reason I'm posting this is to clear up any confusion on what does what.
