Yes, I saw this yesterday. We do seem to be in a sort of a no-name Era. For me, this became true when I could go to YouTube and listen to songs from almost anyone who has ever lived.
At my age, I have had a lot of time to be exposed to different styles of music. I suppose there are people who don't know who Bob Dylan is. I suppose there are people who have never listened to Hotel California.
What I find even stranger is LP aka Laura Pergolizzi had gotten 39,000,000 views on YouTube before I found out she existed and she had written songs for Celine Dion, Cher, Backstreet Boys, and Joe Walsh.
Then tonight I listened to "Despacito" for the first time. Number one pop song in all of history it has been said.
Go google the artist with the most views on YouTube. How many out of the top 10 have you ever listened to?
The amount of songs that now exist is so large that for me at least I don't think it is possible to define what sort of Era we may be in if any.
If any name could stand for the present perhaps it is AI. Not that AI has created anything of note musically yet. We are all talking about it and what it may do. How Ai has listened to everything there is.
Is this the Era of AI in music and AI in everything?
Billy

“Amazing! I’ll be working with Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, and Buddy Rich, and you’re telling me it’s not that great of a gig? “Well…” Saint Peter, hesitated, “God’s got this girlfriend who thinks she can sing…”

So another misleading Rick Beato title, since it's about the loss of a dominant genre, not of genres themselves.
Rock is still rock, bossa nova is still a bossa nova, and so on. In fact, Rick goes on to say there are "countless sub-genres", undercutting the title even more.
He then says there's an increasing blend between genres, as if this were somehow a new phenomena.
Rick is amazed that there are people who haven't heard of the current hits, but I know a choir member - older than me - who had never heard "Hotel California" until this year. He had a listen and didn't understand what the fuss about the song was.

Methinks that the soundtrack for Gen Z and Gen Alpha will increasingly become "AI prompts". When they shirk what the media is dishing up to them they will simply enter a text to a music app, type a prompt and voilà, instant gratification. And why not?
e.g. "Create a 3-minute spicy composition at 95 BPM within the Reggaeton genre. Integrate Mixolydian mode, 4/4 time signature with a syncopated reggaeton drum pattern. Include heavy bass, reggaeton snare, and digitally enhanced steel drums with techniques like rapid-fire drum machine fills. Structure the piece with an intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and outro. Focus on dynamics and orchestration, emphasizing rhythmic vocal effects. Draw inspiration from "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi."
This promt may seem laborious to write but there are already many sites that specialise in writing prompts so its only a matter of copy and paste.
Also we can now create music videos by just using text, checkout Sora, Runway & Veo 2. amazing.
That is all aimed at the music consumer and not us humble songwriters whose creativity comes from within!
A final word on Ricks video. IMO "The Death of Music Genres" can't come quick enough. Back in the day I resented the lack of musical choice on offer from radio probably because record labels lobby to have their stuff played on air and the big labels and famous names have more clout.
When the web exploded into my life I was suddenly liberated from the water torture aural pain of "Hotel California" ,"Country Roads" anything ABBA et alia Vive la différence
