Hello friends, I recently installed Sequoia 15.2 on my "old" mac M1max/32G0, when on my HD audiophile (4TO) supplied by Biab, I open the style folder which is 579.4MB for 18455 elements, it takes 2mn49s for the elements to appear ??? And this is always so, for the RT-Demos file it takes 2mn20s for 26000 elements etc, etc. In biab if I want to load a style by the function "open style from disc" as it is planned it is 3mn47s and if I want to do the same operation again is still 3mn47s of waiting ??? When on my SD 500GB card I open a file of 118 GB for 22,840 elements it opens instantly, it is the same on my internal disc. I am on biab audiophile and therefore the files are "aiff" larger than the mp3 but 3 minutes for opening a window, it is not possible. What do you think of that, is the disc that poses a problem? is it the same thing for you ? what can I do ? Thank you for reading me.
That does not sound normal at all. Try going to the View menu in Finder | View Options, and select 'always open in list view'. De-select 'show icon preview'. Do the files show up immediately after you do that?
hello and thank you for helping me, so I did what you recommended and I saw that there was a change, so I dug in this direction by checking and unchecking the box you are talking about in the display prefs and see what happened, after multiple attempts with restart etc, it's always the same thing. If I restart and do the same operation, with your recommendations it always takes a long time to open a folder (only on the original BIAB audiophile disc...). could it be the disc that has a problem? thank you PS I saw on another thread that people had trouble installing biab ... I happened to me with a message telling me that I did not have enough GB on my internal HD (I had 300GB left to install 60 GB roughly). So I did a "clean install" with Sequoia and there I was able to install the Biab set-up on my internal HD.
hello, thanks to help me, I can't add the folders in the privacy tab (there is no "+") I sent a picture to try to understand what happens, what do you think ? I did a lot of test, with various app to verify the HD, the only thing I'm sure is that the problem is only on the audiophile original HD.
Your screenshot doesn't look like the "Spotlight" settings. System Preferences | Spotlight. There you can exclude certain folders. For example, try excluding the Styles folder, and then see if you can open it. Did the First Aid utility report any problems with the disk?
hello, I send you screenshots with different options with spotlight, and so first aid indicates that the disk has a problem and it cannot repair it apparently. thanks to help me. best wishes to all Biabers phil
You may have a Permissions issue — happens a lot under Sequoia. After the 15.2 update, Style Picker did not work for me as it should. To fix this, I had to do the following:
Right-click (or secondaty-click) on the BIAB Application icon and select Show Package Contents to bring up the Contents folder.
Run Get Info on the Contents folder, click on the padlock and enter your Admin password to unlock. Next highlight System (should already be Read & Write) and click on Apply to enclosed item.., then click OK on the next screen.
thank you very much Mike for your intervention, so I applied your recommendations but unfortunately it could not solve this problem. I passed a coupon of first aid but it is still the same thing, the disk cannot be disassembled to be repaired. hello to all
Please contact using the Live help and point to this thread, and we can follow up there. First though, if you could (A) try an older Band-in-a-Box disk, and (B) try using a different USB cable with the 2024 disk, just to determine that the problem is specifically with the disk and not something else.
hello, it seems that something has changed, I had made a clone of the HD 2024 and after various tests it had the same problems (I had also checked the cable to be sure that the problem did not come from it). And this morning when testing this clone again it seemed that the files opened more quickly. then I put the original HD back and then the files opened normally, this morning I had installed the french-patch and I had also done what Mike Halloran suggested... then I still launched first aid but there the original 2024 disk gave the same results as before, it indicates problems that it cannot repair, on the other hand on the clone first aid indicates that everything is fine for this disk. I still noted that on the 2 HDs it is difficult to use the "open style by disc" function if you load BIAB from the external BIAB disk... In general the performances seem less good if you launch BIAB from the external disk. do you think I could gain in performance if I installed BIAB and all the folders on a powerful external SSD HD of 4TB (starting by downloading a version of BIAB from the internet)? 2 pictures of diagnostic of the clone with first aid. thanks for your assistance
In my testing when running Band-in-a-Box from an external USB HDD, open style from disk (command + U) presents the File Open dialog almost instantly, except the first time in a session when I first launch Band-in-a-Box where it takes about 5 seconds or so.
Try accessing the folder using the Terminal and see if it lists the files immediately. To do this, you can open a Terminal window and type cd /Volumes/Band-in-a-Box\ Audiophile/Applications/Band-in-a-Box/Styles (edit the name of your hard drive it it's different) and then: ls -al
We would expect it to list files immediately. Either way, I'm not really sure what's going on there. There are some tools you can use to measure the read/write speed, and that may shed some light also.
Press enter after the first cd command to navigate into the Styles directory. Then, type "ls" followed by enter to list the contents. The letter is lower case L as in list.
after this operation the style-list appears, Yesterday I installed BIAB on my internal HD, it seems to work better this way, and concerning “open style by disk” as the “style” folder is on my internal disk, the window opens instantly. I will continue on this path by copying all the big folders of RT and Drums on a new very fast HD SSD, I think it is the best solution to use BIAB at best on mac. If you have any practical advice for an external HD SSD powered by an electric cable to avoid pumping too much on the mac (because I had this problem with a self-powered disk that demanded too much energy from the computer and had problems just to mount on the desktop). In any case thank you for your assistance and I consider the problem solved.
