Hi,
I just purchased an upgrade pack which includes BIAB24 Ultra Pack plus Extra style packs 1 to 19 and I was wondering how to control the installation.
My Mac has limited hard disk space so I have RealTracks and RealDrums on an external drive with the main program and other files in the Mac drive.

I notice that the install manager does not provide facility to indicate where to install all the additional packs and I get a disk space from the install manager.
I am installing one pack at a time with the Remove Install Files after installation checked to free disk space on the Mac as the install progresses.

I would appreciate any information on the best way to handle the install.

If you have limited space on your Mac drive, you can install the RealTracks files on an external hard drive by selecting custom install locations, and it sounds like you did that. I'm not sure I understand your question completely but all Band-in-a-Box related installer packages (Xtra styles included) will use the same install locations. It is also fine to install the entire Band-in-a-Box program onto an external drive, and run it from there. That is also the least complicated way to do it, since you don't have to worry about specifying custom locations for your RealTracks and Drums folder within the Band-in-a-Box program. If you decide to go that route and you have already done the 'split' install, you don't need to reinstall everything, you just need to copy the /Applications/Band-in-a-Box folder from your Mac drive to the external drive. Let us know if you need further help with it

Hi Andrew and thank you for the reply and advice.
I have managed to successfully complete a split install and BIAB is working ok I think. However I will consider transferring it all onto the external SSD.

Another issue I came across while installing BIAB was that using the main Mac drive as the download drive (deleting after each install), when installing Realdrums and Realtrack to the external drive did seem to have some problems (kept getting Not Enough Disk Space Error message and this seemed strange because I still had around 150GB of free space on the MAC drive.) until I changed the download drive to a second external SSD.
Then the remaining download and install proceeded without any further error messages.

One thing that puzzles me is why when selection a Style using the Style Picker, the previously selected Style continues to play (preview) regardless which other Style I pick unless I double click the new style. Selecting a Style and clicking the play button will not play the selected style unless double clicking the new style or first clicking Generate.
Is this normal?
Thanks

The best way to do this would be to create an "Applications" folder on your external drive if one doesn't exist, and copy/merge the "Band-in-a-Box" folder from your internal drive to the Applications folder on the external. Then, move your RealTracks and Drums folders (already on the external) into that Band-in-a-Box folder. Then, in the Band-in-a-Box program, uncheck the custom location settings.

Thanks, I fix the spurious error message - it is most likely not taking into account that you are removing installer files.

The Play button in the StylePicker plays the current song - with the currently loaded style - from the current position. Double-clicking on a style in the StylePicker window does not load a style, that demos the style. There are two ways to demo a style, and you can select the default behaviour by clicking on the [+] button. It will either play a pre-made .m4a audio demo, or it will play your current chordsheet with that style. You can click on the [+] button or right-click/control-click to choose which demo you want. To load a style, right-click on Load Style, or click Apply.

Hi Andrew and a Happy New Year.
I'm Still a little confused by how the StylePicker works.

When I open the StylePicker to preview one or more Styles before selecting one, the only way I can see to make it play is to either double click it, or press Generate, which loads the Style or via a single click to highlight the Style and then press the Demo button to play it.
Which makes me wonder why the Play button?
Cheers,
Luke

Well, the Demo button plays a pre-made demo song. This is a song that we've created by choosing the style, setting the key, typing in the chords, and then rendering to an audio (m4a) file. Pressing the Demo button is playing this finished demo song. This is the same demo that plays when you double-click on the style IF you have the preference set 'double-click style plays pre-made demo' (see [+] button menu). Pressing the Play button plays *your* song from the current position at the selected tempo.
