I've long been a fan of a few GC songs. I decided to look into the what & why & I discovered an interesting writing arrangement correlation. I mostly like the Jimmy Webb songs done by G.C. but there are a couple of others. The thing I noted is that the songs he recorded that i like have inventive or attention grabbing intros while the rest of his hits don't. I know Webb was keen on doing good intros, and short songs aside from his Richard Harris trove, and made a point of adding something to Wichita Lineman after the initial recording sessions, (he hadn't expected it to be recorded as he hadn't finished writing it so wasn't at the initial sessions). From Carol Kaye bass lines to G.C.'s own guitar parts the intros are hooks in their own right. The BIAB intro feature is a good one to keep in mind for this sort of thing...slightly different chords can be the lift needed.

...... adding something to Wichita Lineman after the initial recording sessions, ...... I love guessing games. Now, what exactly is that "something".? In other news....I saw in a post elsewhere on the internet recently about this song. The high pitched synth that is heard around the 2:30 point in the song was intended to be a kind of Morse Code type of sound.....lineman, telegraph lines, etc. and such.....

I love guessing games. Now, what exactly is that "something".? I almost answered that one by saying he slowed the tempo down, but that was "Galveston". Here's what an article in Medium says: He wrote the song “in an afternoon,” he said, except in his mind it wasn’t yet fully written. It had two verses and needed a third. It didn’t have a bridge.
“About three weeks later, I ran into Glen and said, ‘That song I sent you, it wasn’t finished.’ He said, ‘Well, now it is.’ He’d already recorded it.” It's a really good article, well worth the read. I've got a couple of Jimmy Webb's books, he's an excellent writer as well as an excellent songwriter.

Good tip on altering chords (and maybe other stuff) in intros and/or outros. Not something I incorporate much, if any, but you've got me thinking. GC had so many gifts it's ridiculous.
