18 Miles to Memphis

https://www.reverbnation.com/kaynemusic/song/34818230-18-miles-to-memphis

A few years back I did a pilgrimage to discover the Music of the South. I traveled from Florida, Savannah GA, SC, NC, Nashville; RCA Studios, Ryman, Grand Ol' Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, Memphis; Graceland, Beale Street, Sun Studio, Natchez; BB King, Birth of the Blues, Tupelo MS, and New Orleans and more!

I wrote this song along the way.
I originally recorded it using BIAB with my vocals, but I was never happy with results.

Yesterday, I tried out a new Beta Feature in SUNO called COVERS.
I uploaded my BIAB version of this song, into SUNO, and the AI reproduced it with new vocals using my lyrics, melody and BIAB feel. I had to tweak it several times, giving SUNO Meta Tags to get it right. This is AMAZING AI, and will only get better with time.

18 Miles to Memphis I'm taking rock n roll on the road
Got my radio tuned to Elvis and he's singing out his soul
Got my guitar in the back seat of my 57 Cadillac
Memphis is the reason that I'm living with the Rhythm
and I'm never looking back

18 Miles to Memphis there's a honky tonk to play that sound
A little rock and rollin Reeling and strolling
It's to Memphis I am bound
Got my blue Suede shoes and Beale street blues
Its BB King's Hall of Fame
When I play my songs I know it wont be long
before everyone will know my name

Na na na na na
It don't get much better than that
Stars above to guide me and a Guitar right beside me
It's to Memphis not looking back

When I get to Memphis
and feel the Mississippi wind on my face
I'll drive right up to the gates of Graceland
and get down on my knees and pray
Gonna thank the King for Rhythm and Blues
and giving us Rock and Roll
Then I'll take out my guitar from the backseat of my car
and sing a song to his soul

Na na na na na
And Hunk a Hunk of burnin Love at the a Heartbreak hotel
I don't have to tell you It's Memphis that I dream of

Na na na na
From deep down in my soul Memphis is calling
its the music that I am falling in love with of rock and roll

18 miles from Memphis I can almost feel the heat
Beale street down to Graceland Is sound of the southern beat
Got my guitar in the back seat of my 57 Cadillac
Memphis is the reason that I'm living with the Rhythm
and never looking back

Na na na na
from deep down in my soul Memphis is the reason
that I'm living with the Rhythm and I'm living on rock and roll

Na na na na
from deep down in my soul Memphis is the reason
that I'm living with the Rhythm and I'm living on rock and roll

Elliot, cool song, very well written and a nice tribute to music of the South. SUNO did a nice job, but I'd much rather hear your version than an AI cover. You're much more talented than any AI I've heard. So far. smile

Nice one - I think the drums n bass are a bit too contemporary in mix level but that's no biggie.

This is truly professional quality - a wonderful rocker - and the vocals are amazing compared to SynthV which I more often than not feels is soulless and bland sounding. Really, really enjoyed this song.

First of all, excellent song, really good write.
Sounds amazing too, both the vocal and the track. When you say "BIAB feel", do you mean that in addition to the vocal it also redid the music portion?
If so I'm pretty much blown away.
Would love to hear your original version to compare.

What a great ride, Elliott. I'm sittin' in the back smiling at the sky with the wind in my face. So many excellent lyrics lines. There is so much history in there and a couple tons of fun. Anticipation of things getting even better just 18 miles ahead. What a wonderfully sensational trip!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

It is very close to my BIAB original version. SUNO improved the mix, production quality, some of the guitars, and vocals. The bass, drums, is BIAB.

Hi Elliott,

Another great song from you. Excellent backing and those vocals! The AI vocals have an authentic timbre I have not previously heard in songs on this forum.

Best Regards
Nigel
