Hi Hoping someone can end my frustration this seems like a simple setup problem. I have 8 mics into the UX8 and want to record on 8 mono channels in PT pro, Im experimenting with 1 channel then will expand to all 8. The UX8 settings are in the ASIO driver window separate to PT, there I have set each of the 8 channels to mic and mono. In PT I have set the channel by right clicking in trackview to audio track and mono. Changing from stero to mono in PT doesnt seen to change anything in the tracks view i.e. the track still shows as a left and right channel which may be fine. While recording it shows one side i.e left with nothing and right with a bargraph indicating signal amount I presume. It likely would be fine if it stayed like this but when I save the file it bumps left and right onto two channels> I wish to keep eveything on one channel i.e. mono im sure this is possible. In the asio driver setup it does seem to group the inputs into pairs i.e. 4 pairs with no option I can find to separate. This might also be fine if PT has a setting to .separate into two tracks. Seems like a simple setup problem but darn its got me stumped.
Hi, Dave if you highlight the channels you want to use, you can just make tracks 1-8 mono tracks and pt will record to the corresponding channel and track. In pt 2024, as you highlight channels, you can see the channels responding with the vu meters when you open the window. It has to be set to L/R for simultaneous recording.
I agree with Craig, but there's something else which you may need to check as well. In addition to the UX8 ASIO settings, you'll need to have the UX8 selected in PTs audio preferences as the ASIO driver and then use the PT drivers window from within preferences to select all the UX8 inputs. By default it will have selected the first pair and you'll have to use Shift-Click to add the others.
FWIW, the trick is to set the target track Type to MONO Audio Then- In Audio Preferences set the MONO record setting to L&R (both).
What ever the target track is is set to will be duplicated as PT creates the new tracks. Do NOT use a stereo track type. Do set the Audio Prefs Mono setting to record L&R (not just Left or Right; Both).
Then, as ROG mentioned, if all the inputs are selected in the Audio Drivers area, PT will put each on a separate new MONO track.
You can select one MONO track to record to, and PT will record as many inputs as you have selected in the Audio Drivers area and populate them on the next available blank tracks. You do not need to select multiple tracks to record to (in fact I wouldn't do this).

Thanks so much much for the reply, it wasn’t an exact fix but led me to the area that was. Selecting L+R causes PT to set up two mono tracks one with a signal one with nothing which was cumbersome and what I was doing. However I previously did not see this setting so you led me to it. By selecting just L PT then records mono pan one track as desired. Thanks for the reply it really helped
thanks for the reply I left a detailed response in addition to your accurate advice you have to select just the L channel in the Asio driver setup for the ux8 otherwise PT creates 2 tracks one empty for each track selected which is cumbersome as one then has to be deleted . Selecting just L as the input creates a single mono track. you response helped thanks
Sorry for the confusion, your advice was helpful and accurate, The problem was i was experimenting with 1 input to learn how things worked. In this case if you select L+R PT splits it into 2 mono channels it seems. However when I tried recording multilple inputs it didnt work and L+R must be enabled as you mentioned that cleared my confusion anyway and all 8 channels are recoring into single mono tracks SUCCESS! Thanks so much you dont find these things in the manuals only from experts like yourself it is soooo appreciated.
So all seems to be working however the next problem is input levels to PT DAW are very low so everthing is maxed providing no headroom, UX8 input pots are max, mic driver settings are max and no pads are on. Is there any settings in PT for input level setting? Could the UX8 Mic preamps just not have enough power? Is there a boost setting somewhere? i have to apply a very loud sound to the mic to get a decent signal which is not practical. Do I need a external mic preamp to bypass UX8 preamps and go line in? Or are there VST boost plug ins? Your last advice was gold, any suggestions for this problem? Regards and thanks PS the latest upgrade to PT includes assigning meters on any channel not just two, however it is unclear if only aany 2 channels can be monitored or can all channels be monitored at once? Or is there a plug in that would do this ? Thanks Regards any input is appreciated
I do not have the UX8, but it sounds like maybe there is a Mic/Line switch somewhere that could be affecting the input levels. Maybe someone with experience with this device can chime in. Do your mics connect via XLR or 1/4"? The type of Mic also matters; some are louder than others.
As for monitoring inputs, it is supposed to allow monitoring multiple, and it has worked for others, I have not had luck with that aspect, though I recently rebuilt my machine and should retest this.

What rharv said, plus - does the UX8 have a switch for -10db (domestic) and +4db (pro) levels. These are usually hidden away on the back or side panels.
