I just migrated to a new system--old HW doesn't support W11. I connect via WIFI to my Linksys router, which I've had for many years. The old computer can "see" the router in File Explorer and (most importantly) the USB drive that I'm using as a kind of NAS device. The new system connects fine with the router, and I can log onto the router just fine with the URL in a browser. But the new system doesn't "see" the USB drive that's connected to the router. I expect to see File Explorer populate under "Network". And when I try to map a new drive, using the address (192.168.1.1) of my router, I get nothing. All the "sharing" options in Settings are "on". Any ideas?

Chances are the networked external drive controller is using an older version of Javascript or Flash to communicate and Windows 11 doesn't want to communicate with the obsolete controller operating system.
I have a networked 2 TB Seagate external drive with the same issue.

Have you tried using the computer that *can connect to that drive, and use it to make it a shared drive? That may help the other computer see/find it. In that Share area it will say what link should work. Check the Security tab (in Properties) to make sure the new computer(user) has permissions, as well as in the permissions in the Share area.
I know I had to do that once or twice to get an app to 'see' that drive. Connecting directly to the router I wouldn't expect to see other devices, unless you are in the admin area of said router and had network mapping visibility.
"I just migrated to a new system--old HW doesn't support W11." ... why would you migrate to a new system with no path forward??

It may be worth checking on the router that you don't have any access restrictions. You may have to enable drive-sharing on the new PC. IIRC I had to do that on my new laptop to 'see' the SMB file server.

I decided to take another route...I used to work for Linksys, and when I retired 7 years ago I kept an "updated" router for future use. I've replaced the older router with this new one, installed off my new system. I think I can simply rebuild what I had by starting over again with this new router. Thanks for all the feedback!
