The way I keep my new BIAB songs and 'work in progress' at the top of my song picker list is to use an underscore "_" before the title. That causes the songs to stay at the top of the list (ASCII sorted). Any character in the row above the QWERTY keys will do the same thing. Its just a little time-saver.

Great idea, Don. But what happens when you are working on half a dozen songs and they all have underscores?

That half dozen song stay at the top of the list sorted by name. Still not bad to have a half dozen songs to browse through.

Sam,
The ASCII sort would simply move right and sort on the first character of the song title. I don't mean to name the song "_" but "_samssong1.mgu" etc. It will keep it toward the top of your song picker list. You should be able to find your 'work in progress' easier. Of course, you would want to rename it Sams Song 1 when it is finalis(z)ed. Its just a trick to keep selected songs on top of the list.

Those who use BIAB for live gigs can use this scheme to separate sets, ie: Songs in set 1 start with "_"; set 2 songs start with "^"; etc. Your songs will remain grouped and alpha-sorted regardless of the title.

Here's how I name my projects:

- 001 - projectname-date_last_worked
- 002 - projectname-date_last_worked

etc ...

Works well for me.

Cheers,
Mike

It is better to write the date in reverse order - i.e. 14th November 2008 is written as 081114. That way they remain in a logical sortable order with the oldest first and the newest last. I learnt this at uni with all the mountains of notes I took in my various classes. My big file once fell apart in the first few weeks - it was a total nightmare. Then I worked out this system. The file could fall apart now but I would still be able to put it back in the right order without having to do anything other than look at the number on the top right corner. Those of you who are / know students, please pass on this little tip
