Hi all

Quite a lot of people these days are doing multi-tracked videos of them / their bands and I'm a little late to this bandwagon, but since we're still in lockdown for the foreseeable future I thought it might be fun to give it a go, but I'm not very knowledgeable about video editing.

Can anyone suggest some straightforward, no-frills software - either for Windows on my laptop and/or Android on my phone - for syncing up 2-4 video and audio tracks and displaying them side-by-side or on a grid?

Preferably free but don't mind spending a little (don't want to spend a lot!).

Thanks!

Mike

I’m using the Acapella app, but it only runs correctly on iPhone or iPad. You might check it out anyway to see if it does what you need. When I did that, it helped me refine what I was looking for.

Thanks! I looked into this and it's definitely pointed me along the right lines. I've got a few to try out now.

There are free specialized tools for post production effects such as split screen video. This way, you are not chasing higher and higher end editors.

KineMaster is a solid choice. It’s free with some in-app purchases and has an easy-to-use interface for syncing and arranging your videos.

Wondershare Filmora has both free and inexpensive versions. I use the free version to record the screen and capture digital audio to my Mac. The paid version looks ok but Macs have iMovie which is free.

Moving up a notch in features and support is Adobe Premiere Elements Adobe Premiere Elements 2024 You can get pretty sophisticated in PE. It's pretty simple but has telephone support when you want to get really creative. Permanent license only (no subscription) and you can bundle Photoshop Elements for a few dollars more.

I've been using Movavi for the last couple of of years, quite powerful and easy to use, and not that expensive.

I've found that at least for our music we get WAY more listens on YouTube than we do on Spotify/iTunes, etc., so important to maintain a video presence.

It appears this zombie thread was revived by a bot.

Welcome to the future! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Well spotted, David. Joined yesterday, posted one software ad in response to a 2020 post, then gone...

One post, true. One and done, perhaps and we’ll see. But how can one tell it’s a bot?

For syncing and displaying multiple video and audio tracks, you might want to check out software like DaVinci Resolve. It’s free and quite user-friendly for basic tasks, plus it’s got a lot of powerful features if you want to dig deeper later. I had a similar project when I was at the Prague Film School, experimenting with different video and audio layers. It was a bit of a learning curve at first, but having good software really made a difference.

Well, the 2nd post is another product recommendation, for a different product, posted to the same four year old thread. The 2nd post does not acknowledge any of the posts between his first two posts. Certainly FEELS like the same AI bot weirdness that we're seeing...just about everywhere...

No idea if a bot or not but he/she/it brought up DaVinci Resolve. Though it is free, there are reasons why DaVinci Resolve Studio is $295, similar to the differences between iMovie and FinalCut Pro on the Mac.

For inexpensive, I still like Wondershare that I linked earlier which can also capture video with digital audio off the internet, bypassing the microphone. That last function is also available in the free version but I only know how to access it on the Mac—certain it works over Windows but I don't know in what directory one would find the captured file.
