Here's an original 1940s style jazz song with vocals by Joan Elise. All instruments are BIAB.

[*****] or Get Off the Pot

I’ve hung around about as long as I can,
You gotta let me know if I’m in your plans.
You got it good, you don’t know what you got,
So [*****] or Get Off the Pot.

We’re together so long, people startin’ to talk,
Stop draggin’ your feet, and start walkin’ the walk.
Are you sincere, or are you not?
Then [*****] or Get Off the Pot.

I’ve been waitin’, you’re hesitatin’, you’re drivin’ me out of my mind,
I wanna know, why don’t you show, that you’re the marryin’ kind?

We gotta talk and I’m not gonna lie,
You’re wastin’ time and life is passin’ me by.
Am I the one, or am I not?
Just [*****] or Get Off the Pot.

[Instrumental break]

I wanna know if your intentions are good,
It’s time to get a ring and do what you should.
Got other men waitin’, believe it or not,
So [*****] or Get Off the Pot (I really mean it)
[*****] or Get Off the Pot.

This is certainly a musical throwback from another era which I like. It's good to keep the past alive.
I wouldn't have known that BiaB had this style and the trumpet/trombone solo was spot on.
And Joan did great on the vocals.
Good job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Thanks so much for listening, and the kind words, I really appreciate it!

I heard a co-worker in Linden, NJ, USA use the the title phrase back around 1980, and it stuck with me, so I'm happy I was able use it in a song. I imagined Ella Fitzgerald singing it when I wrote it, so a jazz or Dixieland style seemed appropriate.

Aah, finally someone who gets into the same trouble I did by posting a link to a song with a censored title.
I feel for you!
Your song is a nice trip back in time to the 40s (no idea if that's the music my grandparents listened to when they were young, but I think so).
I think you did it very well, and for obvious reasons I really like your lyrics.
A good and funny song!

Wow, super job! Very old sounding, in a good way. I can almost hear the (nonexistent) grooves crackling at 78 RPM. BiaB has a TON of really nice jazz tracks, and you've put them to great use here. Joan's vocals are perfect, and like the very authentic-to-the-era EQ, too. Just wonderful.

Thanks for the kind words, B.D.!

It's nice that we can express ourselves any way we want to, without having to worry about radio airplay - because it's unlikely we'll get it anyway wink

Man, this is so good, Bob. Love the style, and yes, I could hear Ella -- but Joan did a outstanding job. You really did an amazing job recreating this wonderful vintage sound and feel, and Joan fit in so well. Cool write, and those solos are fabulous. Would like to hear a Cheech and Chong rendition where the pot IS the good s---. Haha. Clever write and good production.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks for the listen and positive feedback, Marty!

It's fun to write songs with "swing" - and BIAB has a lot of good styles for that kind of music.

We've listened to the Louis and Ella periods of music for decades so it was easy to fall into this vibe.

Cool sassy vocals and an ace all BiaB session group. The horn solos were standout as was the mix.

Enjoyed it,

J&B

Hi, Bob.

Ha! laugh

Well sung (props to Joan), throwback arrangement, well mixed.

What's not to like?

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Certainly sounds from the era. Great choice of instrumentation for the mix.

Hello Bob and Joan,

You really know how to make the 40's come alive!
My father would have loved hearing it. He always played this style.
Joan has a fantastic voice. A bit sharp, but pleasant.
I enjoyed it very much.
The man on that pot certainly knew what to do.
Otherwise he would be in big trouble...

And you also showed me that BiaB has more possibilities than I knew.
Nice work!

Hans

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
